Im guessing Ebay will have a new flood tomorrow morning, prices will dip and folks will be able to get $75 out of this deal. Im sure there will be someone killing the market by putting theirs up for $80 to really drive down the prices.

Got 2 1TB but for $69 each. Manager wouldn't take the coupon. Said corporate sent him a memo.
I'm gonna call corporate tomorrow and if they don't reimburse to make them free I'm gonna charge them with a violation of CA shelf tag law at the CA dept of weights and measures. That'll wake them up. Last edited by shadowshopper; 05-24-2012 at 07:43 PM.. |

It's not a price mistake, it was on clearance. That's what YMMV means. |

My brother wasn't so lucky. One store refused to honor the coupon on top of the 69.99 'sale' price of the 1TB. Another store turned him down in a similar fashion on the 2TB. I wonder what tomorrow will bring: will every store get the memo by then? |

I went to four stores and did manage to walk away with one free 1TB drive.
At first store, they had 1TB drives in stock. I didn't have the coupon on me, but pulled it up on my iPhone from the Staples app. Manager told me that I needed a physical coupon, that he wouldn't take an app coupon. So I asked them to hold it for me, went back home, and printed out a stack of coupons. I went back and picked up the hard drive, went to the cash register. Clerk didn't bat an eye when the hard drive rang up as $0.00. At second store, they only had one 2TB drive in stock. When I presented the coupon, clerk said that the coupon didn't make any sense, that I shouldn't be getting something for free. She at first said that the coupon must be for online orders, even though the coupon plainly said "valid at stores". She then called corporate HQ and got a prerecorded message, so I guess corporate must have been fielding a lot of calls about this. She said that the $150 coupon would only apply to the original price of $240. I still figured that $90 was a decent price for a 2TB drive and cheaper than the clearance price, so I bought it anyways. At third store, Staples.com said they had 1TB drives in stock. I asked an EasyTech technician to get a 1TB drive. He started to look it up on the computer to see if they had any in stock. Manager stopped him and said they don't have any to sell. So I'm guessing they pulled the drives. At fourth store, Staples.com said they had 1TB drives in stock. I asked the cash register clerk to get me one. So she got me one and started to ring me up. When she saw the coupon, she immediately went to the manager. Manager said they were not honoring that coupon. |

I guess you must be exhausted now.

2 stores on my way home from work showed limited supply, clearance item. first stop. full price on tags. didn't ask. second store same full price on tags. asked the guy at register if they were on clearance. he called a guy over who checked in their system. both showed on clearance. 2 of each in stock. he went to the back along w/ the manager to check if he could find. he came out with 1 of each. manager went off to help someone else with something or to work the register or something. i checked out with one of the 3 guys they had pictures up that were their computer experts. each rang up on clearance. then the coupon came out and the total went to 0. and since it was staples coupons that took the price to 0, there was no pre-coupon california tax to pay. free. spectacular. best damn slickdeal for me ever. and tomorrow morning i think i'll give that first store a run.
It used to be said that an infinite number of monkeys with typewriters would eventaully write all the great works of literature by random chance. Thanks to Twitter and Facebook we now know this is not true. [stolen from Gammachaser on a usatoday message board] |
