Well that was frustrating, I called Microsoft Store support and got someone in India who had no clue what I was talking about. After putting me on hold and looking into it he came back said this looks like an Xbox problem and transferred me! I'm just going to try my promo code when I need it and if it doesn't work I'll just dispute the purchase with my Amex for false advertising.
I got the cancellation emails too. When I called the microsoft store customer service they punted me to the xbox live customer service. I just spoke to someone in the xbox CS for a half an hour and got no where, he had no idea why the order would be cancelled. When I gave him my $25 promo code he said that is a microsoft store code and that I'd have to talk to the microsoft store customer service.
My hunch is the emails were probably just a system error and the codes should work fine. But I'd use the $25 within 90 days just in case you need to dispute the charge on your CC.
still haven't received either code. talked to livechat twice, called twice. their customer service representatives are pretty terrible. got put on hold after asking for a supervisor, still on hold after 33:56 as of the time of this post.
might have to resort to filing a dispute with amex for the purported $40 value of both items. this is pretty annoying.
