Ok, I think I've added all pertinent information. Pictures added from Gateway website. I added a small image for those that don't want to look at a super huge (almost 3.0MB) image. Newegg does not have any pictures posted at the moment.

I bought one. I was looking for a laptop and at this price I had to bite.

Yes, it should be.

This is essentially an i3-2350 laptop (close to i3 performance, but not apples to apples) laptop with a better integrated graphics card than the Intel HD 3000. Just FYI for comparison sake. For the price, this would actually make good for a mobile HTPC, if all your doing is watching, recording, etc like you would use a standard cable box.

If you want a 15" version of these specs, some Best Buys have the Toshiba L755D-S5106 for $340, where the HD is 500GB vs 320GB.

Refurb added to title. I think these are quite a bit better performers than the i3, since it's quad core and can be overclocked. The graphics are much much better than intel HD 3000. For instance, even without overclocking, you could play Dead Island with high detail on this thing. HD 3000 would struggle at lowest possible settings.

It depends on a lot of stuff to compare them though. IF you overclock (as I do), these are better hands-down.

If you don't OC (why don't you OC?), then this CPU struggles in enough games for it to be relevant to the discussion. For example, Just Cause 2 is unplayable (<20fps) even with a 6650M on low settings at stock CPU speeds.

If someone doesn't game, the i3 will seem faster for most tasks as it's more efficient architecture with hyper-threading for smooth multi-tasking. Like blackblaze said, it's not apples to apples, but the two CPUs are on level (unless you OC). If you do light gaming, this is a better choice though.

Also, the 1600x900 resolution is what makes this computer interesting. If it were 1366x768, I wouldn't be interested at all.

How's Gateway tech support if there are troubles?

These look really nice for the price.

I have to say, though... if Gateway hired one or two marketing guys to make them a new logo, it would probably be the best money they ever spent.

1600x900 is the de facto minimum resolution for 17" nowadays.

This sold for $276 earlier this month here. Granted it's from a lesser-known merchant, but Newegg's return policies can be pretty unforgiving, so I don't see that much advantage in going with them.
