He reached 2.350Ghz w/ 1.1125Vcore stable for 9 hours. He also posted about OCing it to 3.3Ghz for a short time, playing Skyrim at medium settings with decent framerates, and extending battery life for every day tasks.

On the other hand, there's other overclockers who claim that the turbo boost does it automatically when gaming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w...ature=plcp So it will take some experimentation to see what fits your needs.

Do consider upgrading to 8GB for general performance upgrade if you need it.

i want to buy something for gaming/daily use and i can't decide if i should buy this and just save up for a good gaming rig or spend 500 on a desktop right now and upgrade as time goes on. 350 for a good gaming laptop seems like a pretty good deal to me

I've gone both ways. I think you will have more flexibility with a desktop. And as time goes on, you can modify and upgrade it. As for gaming comparisons, my two Gateway laptops (red & white) are due here tomorrow. I will post a benchmark comparing my home gaming desktop, new Gateway Laptops, as well as to an Asus Gaming Laptop originally $1100 (but two years old).

Desktops are upgrade-able and more importantly, more fixable over time. I originally built my gaming rig I guess about 4 years ago. I'm running a tri-core Phenom II 720 with a slight overclock. Since I've had this machine, I've upgraded the motherboard (in preparation for Bulldozer, which turned out to be a bust), the case, the graphics card, the RAM, the hard drive, and the monitor. The only parts left that are original are the CPU and Power supply. Basically, desktops can be upgraded over time, and even though I have a 4-year-old processor, I can still play Dead Island with everything turned to highest, or any game for that matter short of Battlefield 3 (though I haven't tried it).

Laptops are a one-time thing. Before this Gateway laptop my laptop was a a used Dell with an Nvidia 8600GT, which probably cost the original owner a pretty penny ($1000+ about 4 years ago). Now, this thing with integrated graphics (albeit really good integrated graphics) can spank it. So for gaming in the long run, I'd say go with the desktop. Design a system to be super upgrade-able, and add on/upgrade until forever, upgrading the system's bottleneck, and then finding the next bottleneck to upgrade a few months later.

Got both of mine today - they are Real Slick. My wife wanted the white (because it looks like an Apple PC) while I liked the red. Both were flawless and brand new complete with plastic wrap still on. Neither had any blemishes or scratches. I'm running the recovery disks now but once I get them set up I'll try some bench testing. On first appearances and start-up they are just damn cool! Mathematical - I owe you lunch!

those fx 17" gateways, they are great. You should see the 1920 x 1200 screen, it is like apple retina display.

So how are they in benchmarks? In my experience amd always sounds better in talk and somehow lags behind a genuine intel in actual performance.

Sorry, haven't forgotten. I operate a seasonal railroad museum and have been infected with a bees nest. Although the bees are no big deal, their droppings have landed on 750 photographic displays and the "string" like droppings are awful to remove. Had to close, hire exterminator, help, and with TLC clean every photograph and display case. I hope to test the Gateway later this week. Deeply regret that I cannot put it to the test and experiment with it now. Perhaps, another buyer of the laptop can beat me to the punch. However, on the surface as I mentioned earlier, the initial appearance and operation was inspiring.

Altoona is a cool RR town with the Horseshoe Curve, Gallitzin Tunnels and Heritage RR Museum. Also great bike trails like the Lower Trail. Try to get there at least once/year.

Are people satisfied with their purchase?

Can anyone confirm that this includes an HDMI out port? Nowhere is it listed for the laptop but I believe the AMD Radeon HD 6520G should have HDMI out.
