Ivy bridge is about 5% faster in single threaded apps at the same clocks. Vs 2 extra cores and 4mb more cache. I know which I would take especially for less money.

Go ahead. You'll have skipped over the numerous other improvements in the chip architecture, resulting in actual feature upgrades, but since you're not educated about them you won't know the difference.
