I always figured a multi tool, such as this would be better suited for sanding, for small/detailed jobs.

For the most part, no. Finding anything above a 220 grit sandpaper for a sander like this is likely to be difficult. You almost always want to wet sand paint and primer, so that's another issue for this. An orbital air sander would be the best option if you have a compressor large enough to run it.

Just be aware that you cannot use just any sandpaper. You will have to use hook and loop sanding paper. And from quick checks it looks like each precut sheet is going to cost around a dollar a piece (online Home Depot). However from reading reviews (Amazon) you can buy 5 inch 8 hole hook and loop orbital paper and cut them to size and save a lot of money. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb...ital+paper
