Gander Mountain Fishing Rods $7-$10 After $20 MIR + FS no min

I picked up one of the 5'6" ultra lights. Hope they are as good or better than that Cabela's deal. I purchased 4 of the Cabela ultra lights a few weeks back.

Anyone know how these GanderMountain rods compare to other rods?

If these are the older ones, then they are branded Fuji blanks and are actually pretty nice. I have one of the older models in a 5'6" ultra light and it performs great. Even managed a 35" Northern Pike that I caught Perch fishing on it (That was a fun catch.). They aren't cheap feeling fishing rods like some cheap bottom rung Zebco rod. They feel solid as any other fishing rod I've ever used.

I can't remember who makes the newer ones, but they are still solid rods for the price.

Tip - Gander Mountain and Guide Series rods are branded blanks. But GSX are actually Gander Mountain developed products contracted out to a manufacturer.

Either way for this deal and those prices, these are good rods for a beginner or enthusiast, though if you're looking for something more serious then I suggest a St. Croix or an nicer Abu Garcia rod.

If you're looking for a good cheap spinning reel to go with it, the Gander Mountain reels (Generally $29.99.) are also quite nice for the price, or go with an Abu Garcia Cardinal 400i (Generally $49.99, but picked mine up on sale for $29.99.) or 300i reel (Generally $39.99.).

I picked up the 5'6" Gander Mountain ultra light for $9.99 after rebate. They charged me $5 shipping so total is$14.99.

The Cabela deal with the Daiwa combo's were much better priced, but I am still wondering who has the best quality...

Looking for Father's Day for my husband. He likes to fish SM/LM bass and stripers from a boat. Any recommendations which rod to get him?

Striped bass, rather than fast and easy strippers, are usually in salt water. They require a very large rod because they'll take your arm off, much like strippers. Small and large mouth bass are fresh water, and you can use any ultralight smaller rod, and they'll work fine. Freshwater bass come it at a high of 6-7 lbs usually. Striped bass can weigh as much as a elementary school child, thus require a larger rod. Spare the rod, spoil the child.
