Has anyone had their rods ship yet? It seems like all my fillers have shipped, but none of the rods.

Looks more like Brown Trout, but I could be wrong. Either way some nice catches. Never tried Brown Trout before. Had Lake Trout once and I thought it was a bit fishy myself. Though I guess it's in the way you cook it, and at the time at a remote Canadian fly in lake I didn't have much to dress it up with.

As for the D-Shocks, the line they put out this year is decent, nothing fancy but wouldn't toss it out in favor of these Gander rods if I already had a D-Shock combo. The reel is nothing special, if not a little on the low quality side, and might not last as long as you like if you use it and abuse it a lot, but the rod is at about the same quality as some of these Gander Mountain rods worst case you replace the reel down the line.

Really the only draw back to the D-Shock is you don't have as much choice in gear ratio on the reel. For normal use this isn't probably an issue or if you're planning on just bobber or jig fishing with the reel. But if you plan on using a lot of hard baits or plastics then the retrieval speed might be a little slow or fast for what you need. But for a general use rod and reel it's most likely not going to be an issue.

I'm a beginner fisher, but the markings on the pole say the line weight is 10-17lbs? I'm confused as the gander mountain website says 6-12lbs. I bought an 8lb reel will this not work anymore?

Can anyone tell me what I bought? got the 8' leadcore, arrived today...is this a spinning or baitcasting rod? I was going to get an abu garcia bcx 6600 baitcaster reel, but not sure if this would be a good combo for catfishing in the river or if it would even fit on this rod....any help is greatly appreciated!

It looks like Gander Mountain removed all mention of this rebate on their site, including the PDF form. Curious since it's supposed to be valid for purchases through tomorrow...
