I am curious, is this the kind of charger you get for UPS batteries ?
I have 2 @6v, and 2 @12v (big APC unit) that have failed, and are sitting in the garage... I wouldn't care if it took days to recharge them, I just want to make sure that after the charge, they can still hold their charge through multiple power outages, like buying a new battery. |

The OP link is to a trickle charge device only. It does have a benefit not on the other one - it has a "maintainer" feature, so theoretically you could leave it on your battery indefinitely. (boat battery left unused all winter in Minnesota, for example) Buy the OP link if you are specifically looking for Trickle and/or Maintainer only. Buy the other link if you want the versatility of all choices except "Maintainer". (Since i don't trust the "maintainer" idea, i vote for the 10/2/50 charger!) The difference is that the one you have can jump start a car, it can do a high current charge (less time) or a lower current charge. The one on sale is basically an intelligent battery tender that tells you the capacity of the battery and will try to charge and/or maintain your battery. It cannot jump or do a high current charge. I have a dumb battery tender and I got this one not because it can charge a battery (my other charger charges faster), but because it will monitor your battery and tell you the % from full. I have eight cars so a few cars do not get driven often, if at all, for the year. Gary Last edited by garyhgaryh; 05-30-2012 at 03:21 PM.. Reason: fix typo |

I have a 900A (1200 A instant) jump starter and four car chargers and I tell you that a jump starter will never replace my sears die-hard car charger which (my version) can charge at 20a-hr. But I can also tell you that the jump starter does a better job jump starting any car than my car charger. Different devices for different purposes. What do you think and comparing with http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_1015...871222000P $40.49?
I see the answer 2 above, thanks. Last edited by nans; 05-30-2012 at 03:29 PM.. |

another option ,The harbor freight float charger is fine for small batteries. 700ma. $7 on sale. Been using them for years on motorcycles. Actually these type chargers hold around 12.5-13 v. also have charged UPS sealed batteries too.

Clueless-these maintainers are very useful.
If you are looking for a jump starter-buy something else. Amazing!
