Microcenter also has their $399 27"er which is similar, although with the advantage of an easier return, if needed. The 2412 is a good deal at <$300. Although for those unsure, be aware of the antiglare issue with most IPS screens. They tend to slather it on rather harshly. It bothers some people, yet others are fine with it. I had to return the 2412 when I bought it last year, due to text hurting my eyes due to the 'sparkly/grainy' effect. The coating my vary by panel, but the one I got looked like it had an extra helping. It's not the same as standard matte coatings. @Borracho The 120 extra pixels won't all of a sudden make text larger or anything. But what it does is give you more vertical, making it easier for those who work with text a lot. Here is a handy visual guide that I use when comparing different aspect ratios: http://www.displaywars.com/24-inc...-inch-16x9 16:10 vs 16:9 all comes down to what you use the monitor for. For gamer types, they may prefer 16:9. For normal computer use, 16:10 may be more useful. If text is too small for you, do what everyone else usually does. Increase dpi in the Windows settings, either to 1.25 or if you want larger, 1.5. You can also increase zoom in your browser. And for those getting this monitor, don't forget to use a credit card that gives you an extra year of warranty. Nice monitor, if (and it's a big if), your eyeballs can take the antiglare coating. I googled LG IPS monitor, and all I could find was articles about them at the CES showing their IPS 3D TV/Monitor line. I would assume that since this is their "cutting edge" technology, it would come with a price premium initially like everything else does. Even though it's made by Dell, I've never seen a single bad review on this monitor. Sure, people that are willing to shell out a $1000+ will talk about it's inferiorness to other monitors, but for an average user it looks great. I feel bad that you scared away that one dude. I've been researching this monitor for the past 6 months, and this is the cheapest I've seen in during the time frame. The $265 deal was a one day only Dell SB or Employee Purchase special. It happened once in the past year, and there's no guarantee it will happen again. Those Korean monitors are tempting, but I read somewhere you are SOL if you get one with stuck pixels. I wouldn't risk a $300 purchase on that, probably with non-existent customer service. You can swear by your refurbished stuff all you want, but I have first-hand experience, and would NEVER buy anything refurbished.
Why do you think refurbished stuff is so cheap? The manufacturer gets defective products returned and unload them to 3rd party vendors cheap who try to entice you at 20% discount off retail. |

I'm not very familiar with eBay (as I haven't used it for years); is there a way to tell which seller/product is the safest to buy from? |

I own this monitor, and I have to say, it is SO close to being a perfect product. The only thing that really annoys me about it is it's inability to do 1:1 pixel mapping for resolutions lower than 1920x1200. Say if you wanted to hook up an Xbox to it, 1080p resolution will appear stretched. Sure, the monitor wasn't designed for this purpose (business settings, yadda yadda yadda), but when monitors almost $200 cheaper can handle this simple function, why can't this? Other than that, fantastic monitor.

I have a Korean monitor (Crossover instead of Catleap, which has a considerably better stand from what I heard) as well as the Dell U2412M. Both are great, but keep in mind that while Korean monitors have great panels, you're pretty limited on customizing color. My Crossover, which is 27" and is 2560x1440, literally has three buttons: power, increase brightness and decrease brightness and nothing else. You can probably compensate for that with software tweaks on the display, though I haven't attempted that.
The Crossover looks pretty amazing when I'm gaming, though! I've played it with only Mass Effect 2, but it's very shiny. My U2412M is a secondary monitor and is just completely dwarfed by the Crossover, rofl. |

Well, Just did. Menu -> Display Settings -> Apsect Ratio. Shows 16:10, 4:3 and 5:4. So I suppose not 16:9, but 4:3 and 5:4. |

I went ahead and purchased from newegg for the extra warranty and 2 Day Shoprunner shipping that I happen to have. Thanks OP and Unforgivable for posting about newegg.
