Medical HSA Question

Recently had an unexpected emergent surgery resulting in some unplanned medical expenses.

I am eligible to enroll in a HSA begining 7/1/12 with my new job (didn't have one with the old one).

If I open an HSA in July 2012 , can it be used to reimburse health care bills/copays ect that were paid in May/June 2012?
