appliances -- best strategy

We bought a mid level Samsung fridge and a nice front loading Samsung W&D a year ago from Lowe's in Austin TX. Home Depot was friendly enough, but they didn't offer any deals. The guy at Lowe's was friendly, low pressure, told us a lot about Samsung vs Bosch vs other brands, and he said if we buy more than one his manager would give us a special discount. We ended up price matching the W&D using Sears, and getting a nice (15 to 20% I think) discount off of the sale price on the fridge. The extended warranty, which I almost never purchase, seemed good too. I think it was $99 for all 3 items for 4 years.

We considered getting more items and going completely with some nicer Bosch appliances. They were willing to discount everything 25% if we did that. We finally decided that we didn't need all new matching appliances though.

I got the impression that Lowe's can give discounts and HD cannot, or would not for us. A family member got a really good deal on some floor model appliances at HD though, so you may want to check them also.
