how fast a drive is is not purely determined by how quickly it transfers large files.

this drive will feel faster and snappier than any mechanical drive because of all the other attributes it has that is superior to most any mech drive.

and you're comparing a m4 512 to this sata2 60gb drive. lol

anyways, its not the fastest thing in the world by any means but if you're upgrading from a mech drive, this thing blazes for general useage.

i had a sataII vertex and upgraded to a sata3 corsair force GT and its honestly not that different when it comes to normal useage.


finally, for those worried about the reviews...OCZ has excellent service. i've been a long time customer of theirs and they've always taken care of me (from ddr1 all the way to their PSUs)

hdd takes a second or two to get it spinning, ssd don't.
ssd is very nice and worth every penny. just saying, this ssd is so-so and I think better to save up few more bucks for a better drive.

In every day use, the random access speed seems to be more important, in which SSD has a BIG advantage over mechanical drives.

You are only measuring throughput though, access time is where SSDs shine.

Thanks OP. I picked up one of these for a budget HTPC. 60GB is perfect for Win7, XBMC, Office, and Starcraft II

Keep in mind that this drive ships with the 3.50 firmware which eliminates 95% of the problems people with the 1-star ratings (on the drive that shipped with older firmware) were complaining about.

Also, if you're planning on using a traditional HDD for your data you should be more than fine using this SSD as your primary drive despite the "slow" read/write speeds.

If you thought SandForce was unreliable, you haven't even seen the garbage that is Indilinx (which this SSD uses).

You should be more concerned with iops and 4kb speed since that is the noticable every day use of a ssd. Unless u are transfering large files between other ssds then i wouldnt worry about saturating sata 2 sequential read and write max speeds.
