Thread Details

Last Edited by gzrecoil May 30, 2012 at 12:13 PM
The thread over at xda-developers has been deleted by the admins, I will re-post it here, great deal.

The deal is supposed to be for those buying the Galaxy S3, but it can work on any android phone.

Wipe data from dropbox using Titanium backup, after wipe, uninstall.

Download the GS3 dropbox recovery zip installation file here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sbcbo8kmldmanwd

Install the .zip file through custom recovery, used by those with custom roms.

Login to drop box, voila, 48GB is available immediately.

The original thread was below and also offered a way to install via ADB, but I don't have those instructions.

Thank you crackspider for noting a Root Explorer method which does not require a custom CWM.

here the instruccions my way

1. download http://www.mediafire.com/?sbcbo8kmldmanwd
2. download root explorer the pay one or just google it (root explorer apk)
3.add this files ;
system/app/Dropbox.apk
system/app/DropboxOOBE.apk
and;
system/framework/com.dropboxpartner.jar (just use copy and paste on root explorer)
4.system/framework/com.dropboxpartner.jar (hold ..scrow down ..click on permissions ...be sure in the top is MOUNT R/O)
5. (OWNER/Read/Write)........(GROUP/Read).......(OTHERS/Read)
6.reboot ur phone
7.system/app/Dropbox.apk and install
8.log in
9.wait a minute and u get the email getting 48gb
10..enjoy

Some people have noted you need to logon to the web portal after installation to claim the 48GB. Everyone is getting it if you follow the steps right, some it is taking 5-10 minutes however.

Same thing happened with the One X. You will get it for a week, then dropbox will catch on and you will lose it.

This might be an idiot question, but now that I got the 48 gigs, I want to uninstall the hacked dropbox app and reinstall the google play version... It only has a disable option, no uninstall option...

Anyone running CM9 on touchpad, would this work through twrp instead. Also Ive never installed dropbox on touchpad yet so if it works im assuming i just install through twrp boot up download dropbox and login..?
It should. Twrp and CWM are fundamentally the same, just differing UI's. Just copy the archive over and install it over TWRP. Then dropbox will be installed and all you have to do is log in. I didn't have dropbox to begin with either, but that's not an issue.

It might be an ICS app only? I'm no expert, but maybe the app doesn't support gingerbread? It is made for the galaxy S3 which is ICS...
I did it on Gingerbread with a Moto Atrix

Someone noted earlier in the post on page two I believe, that TWRP DID work. Double check, I am unaware what TWRP is.

I thought the last time there was free 25GB space due to an exploit, Dropbox found out and removed the space.
This was before the phone was released period, S3 is out internationally.

There are legitimate ways of increasing your disk space with Dropbox. I'm up to 12GB just by getting referrals and auto uploading images and videos from trips. I'd be higher if I had used their .edu x2 promotion.

All referrals get 500MB now and it's retroactive (http://tidbits.com/article/12914), not just those from .edu accounts so you didn't lose anything there.

Once this modification is performed, can Dropbox tell which phones are legitimately S3 and which are pretenders?

Just going to offer my two cents here. This is not a slick deal, this is an exploit. If XDA has already pulled this from their forum I'd like to see SD do the same. This is supposed to be a place to find great deals/sales not exploit a company by using a hacked product.

To each their own I suppose...

Will they take away the entire account when/if they catch up to this or will they just take away the 48GB?

Last time they only took away the additional space, I doubt we will lose the space.
