I actually might have use for this. I plan to upgrade my 200GB laptop HDD to a SDD when the right deal comes along, then place the 2.5" laptop HDD as an extra storage drive in my HTPC.
Would I need a fan for the 2.5" laptop HDD? This will be going in a grandia gd05 case. Edit: This is a 5400rpm HDD Last edited by Cougarstang; 06-01-2012 at 10:33 AM.. |

more elegant solution $5 after rebate
http://www.amazon.com/Sata-Ide-Ss...155&sr=8-2holds 2 drive plus $5 rebate http://http://www.icydock.com/pro...php?id=26 icy dock has a lot of choices for mounting drives....this is the least expensive info from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...681799408 It is easier to ask for foregiveness than permission
and flavour of the day......greedy bastards "We can't continue to have a system where Wall Street executives privatize the gains and then socialize the losses. Accountability needs to be a two-way street," update let's toast the executives at AIG for doing such a great job by granting them bonuses.......absolute crap and again no accountability..... |

Thank you for all the TUs and reps!
I feel the concern about the fan being seemingly superfluous and about desktops not being the place for laptop-sized hard drives. Here is my educated guess:

And if you get those 3.5" green drive, it use less power and less heat also. If you are replacing your laptop drive so you have extra 2.5" HDD, it is better to use 2.5" HDD drive as external drive than this since they are smaller and easier to carry. |

The fan itself might draw more power and create more heat than the SSD itself. This is just a very wrong implementation of fan technology.. lol.
SSD mounting brackets can come as simple as the ones that comes with OCZ Vertex'es and should serve perfectly as a mounting bracket. Also, they should not cost more than $1 dollar since it is just a sheet of metal that has 8 holes in it. Trying to complicate things to solve simple problems is plain wrong. Why would you use calculus to solve 1+1? If you are justifying yourself to buy this because of the fan, remember than some 120mm fans (4x the area of this 60mm) are as low as $5... 60mm are of course cheaper. This deal is not a worth FP or even a TU at all. Here's a picture of very simple bracket that should last forever, until we change the 3.5" to 2.5" standard. http://www.ocztechnolo |
