If you use a receiver to manage your av all you will need is a single hdmi cable to the projector.

As for a screen, you can use white wall and a white sheet pulled taught if you must but a wall will work if its smooth since your on a smaller budget.

As for a good projector cant help you specifically here, been out of the market for these for too long.

I just set this bad boy up for the company I work for. It got a ton of good reviews and you can set it up to do wireless. I am still having an issue setting up external speakers for it though so I don't know. I'm not really an AV guy though.

Working on the home theater here too. I am waiting for the Panasonic pt-ar100u to go on sale again. Right now its $1200 but it was one sale for $1000 about 2 months ago. This thing a light cannon and with lcd instead of dlp you get lens shift which means it is much more versatile for location and also has a very large zoom range.

What I plan to do with my projector is place it against the back wall of the room and keep all my AV gear in a cabinet with projector on top. The only extra wires that are needed to be ran then are speaker wires.

I am looking at pairing this with a diy screen of about 170"-180" the only resonable way to get something that large is diy. Painting walls is pretty popular but I am considering using blackout cloth on a diy frame. Something like what this guy did http://members.shaw.ca/danhanson/...roject.htm

Also projectorcentral.com is your best friend with this sort of stuff use their projector calculator to figure out how large of screen you can get with the projector you want. What I started messing with projectors I did realize how important throw ratios and projector placement was. Projector central makes it super easy and does almost all the math for you.

I got a Panasonic AE3000u with a 106" screen, definitely awesome to get a true theater experience at home!

Check out the Epson 8350 projector. You can get it for around $1,100. For a screen there's many options. You can actually do a paint mixture and paint a screen onto your wall. I guess I was lucky when i ordered mine, because it came with the screen.

Actually i see a deal for the 8350 for $1000. I think it's refurb'd though.
