So are these a legitimate substitute for string floss? I would be worried about cavities between the teeth

Substitute, no. I run this bad boy after I floss and before the mouthwash. Keeps the gums in good shape but couldn't be counted on to get something out that's really lodged in there. It has however removed crud in my mouth that floss missed. If I had to buy again I wouldn't miss this at $28 for sure.

To clarify the "gums in good shape" thing: It gets water below the gumline of your teeth to get to the stuff in there, not just in between your teeth. That alone makes it totally worthwhile for me.

Great deal, bought one the last one that front paged. Just and FYI but you should probably never have to use a setting over 5 unless you want permanent gum damage. 10 is just absolutely retarded powerful, I don't know why that's even on there.

So true. I also recommend putting warm water in the reservoir. Warm water feels good on your teeth. I love this thing. It's amazing that even after flossing, this thing gets even more food from between your teeth. Wished I started using it years ago...easy to use.

Got one for the father in-law. He was very curious about mine. After 2 years of using it, I can report that each one of my 6 month check ups, specifically gingival margins, have consistently been in the 2-3 range occasionally a 4. This thing rocks
