Not a good price compared to starting from dried beans. Eden even sells dried organic black beans. Make a huge batch and freeze, it's real simple. Ends up being like 1/4th-1/3rd the cost of these cans.

Eden cans are free of BPA, unlike pretty much all their competitors. The cans are sourced from Indiana and they cost more to make. So not only are they healthier but they're domestically produced.

They also use kombu which is a natural form of MSG from seaweed for flavoring which does enhance it.

Much easier than using dry beans, in my experience. Even after soaking forever and long hours of cooking, I've had difficulty getting bean out of a bag to soften.

$1.16 per can is a fantastic deal for these, compared to what they sell for in stores, especially the high-priced specialty stores that tend to carry them. The convenience of canned beans without BPA is definitely worth the extra cost in my experience.

My only concern is that Amazon may have some history of shipping dented cans. I know that was an issue when there was a pumpkin shortage.

I'll stick with these to save the hassle and cost of using freezer space, packaging/thawing, applying kombu, cooking, dealing with freezer burn, and buying a pressure cooker but thanks for the tip.

Couldn't agree more. What's your favorite black bean pressure cooker recipe? Mine is: cut up tomatoes, carrots, corn. layer in cooker. add a nice scoop of black beans. add salt, thyme, whatever other seasonings I feel like.

50lb bag of black beans is $30 at my local restaurant supply grocery.

These beans are fabulous!!! I too make my own beans but each batch is different as it depends when the beans were grown. Get them fresh and they cook very quickly. Beans that are 1-2 years old take much longer. These beans are always perfect. I go through a case every 3-4 months.

Is the juice from the tomatoes your only liquid? You do not soak the beans?

oh no, of course you have to add water. just make sure you don't fill the pot more than half full in totality (all ingredients), then add enough water so that it's about two inches above the top of all the ingredients.

the way i do it is to fill it up until i can stick my forefinger in and it almost reaches my second finger joint.

of course this depends on how thick you want things... but you definitely want to add a significant amount of water as they will soak up a lot. the aforementioned method will work if you use lots of vegetables like i do... hence lots of water inside the ingredients and lots of open spaces between stuff. if you use a lot of solids then you need to add a lot more water.

black bean stew (zero fat) + brown rice. eat only that for a month and you will see signficant difference in weight, energy, etc. that is because you are eating only complex carbs, zero fat intake, low sodium, all the complex proteins...

I ate this while weight lifting and got real buff without having to buy any GNC mixes, etc. I was no bodybuilder, but I went from having let myself go out of shape to pretty clear ab muscles when I flex lightly, bench pressing 220lbs 80-100 reps at a go, size 34 to size 31 waist...

a lot of people think nutrition means powders and special foods. nope...

Zero fat black bean stew? No meats or anything else than what was listed up there?
The one I use is pretty fatty and for a Brazilian Sunday... Sooo delicious but tempted to try out other recipes that are better for my health
