I JUST bought the HX20V on Ebay and when I saw this on the DOTD. This is a pretty good deal for a great camera. I would have bought this had I not just gotten the HX20V.

The video recording on this better than all point and shoots and even most dsl cameras

I want a DSLR but I know it will stay at home more than a smaller camera. If it doesn't fit in a pocket (or my wife's purse) I don't think it will get the use it deserves. I've been waiting for a small camera that can also act as a video camera so I can pack one device instead of two. Sounds like this might be a perfect fit. Thanks OP.

Not that great of a deal when Best Buy was clearing them out for $230.99 back in early May. This model isn't being made anymore, and that price is almost full price to the newer HX10V already out. This wouldn't be worth it until it is at least $230 or less.

I've searched all over my entire area for an HX9V with absolutely no success. They're virtually gone everywhere. Unless you can point someone in the direction of a better deal, your statement isn't warranted.

Also, the HX10V isn't the successor to the HX9V. The HX20V is but is also $100 more. Just because a company isn't making a model anymore doesn't mean that it's obsolete or not a good deal. This is one of the best P&S cameras out right now. The HX10V got lousy reviews, where as the HX9V has gotten stellar reviews.

I chose the HX20V only because there were no good deals on the HX9V and because of the upgrades that come with the HX20V. I would have jumped on this had I not just picked up the 20.

Problem is a discontinued P&S camera, even if it is the best one of 2011, shouldn't cost almost as much as it did when it first came out. I bought it for $230.99 at Best Buy a month ago. You won't find a good deal on the camera anymore because there aren't enough of them out there anymore. You would be better off finding a Canon SX230 for less money, as that and the HX9V were the best P&S cameras last year.

Guess when I bought mine at Best Buy I should have taken the other two they had in stock and turned a profit on them, would have almost paid for the one I kept.

Almost as much? Original MSRP was $350. Ebay had it at $280. That's 20% cheaper. the HX20V's MSRP is $399 so it's over 40% cheaper than that one. Supply & Demand. These cameras are scarce and still sought after so you won't see a huge drop. If people are willing to pay that price, there's no reason to drop it more.

I was going to buy d800, but this camera looks a way better and x12 times cheaper. No way nikon somebody will pay for d800

I own this camera - absolutely fantastic product. Bought it for around this price sometime back, but as an open box. I am not terribly sure why it was discontinued (your guess is as good as mine, possibly just a very fast release cycle), but it's very full-featured,easy to use, and produces photos that are nothing sure of stunning with the most minimal effort. It's the sort of point-of-shoot that makes it easy to to click-and-shoot, but gives many manual and semi-manual options when you need them. Very good zoom, image stabilization, and some features like the multiple types of panoramic shots are nice to see. As a video camera, it has a great microphone and the recording quality is great.

The only thing that has ever given me any trouble is that it's not the most true-to-color camera, it tends to alter the colors a bit. Given the endless amount of settings on this camera, I'm sure it's possible to change this somehow, but I haven't really had time to hunt around for it. Anyway, if you're looking for a camera and like lots of features (vs. minimalist point-and-shoot), then you'll probably love this one.

That's right!!! I got a display model for $40, talk about profit
But $230.99 + $28 ebay fees + $5 to ship - $279.99 = hardly worth reselling

Pretty good deal. This has been my camera for the last year and love it EXCEPT in certain situations the color accuracy is very off, and the settings aren't very adjustable. (I've always had this issue with Sony.) Great picture quality overall, great videos, and packed with cool features (sweep panorama, background defocus, HDR with no tripod, great in low light, etc). The 2012 version has a few nice improvements but nothing huge, 20X zoom (up from 16X), 18mp (up from 16mp), built-in wifi, a few extra scene modes, and a few other tweaks. Some good reviews on Amazon.

Well here are a few things I figured out about the color accuracy. The display on the camera does not show pictures accurately at all color wise, but as long as you set the settings like what I am about to tell you, they show up pretty accurately on the computer or prints.

Make sure you have the color settings on "Real Color" first off. Second, if you are inside at all no matter what the lighting is like, the auto white balance doesn't really predict the color correctly. I find if you manually set the White balance they turn out fine. You have to go to the white balance settings and the manual setting. Then you take a picture of something solidly white in that lighting. Once you do that, it remembers the settings until you try to set it manually again by taking another picture of something all white.

As for the deal, I guess if you really want this camera. then it is an ok price. I guess I just got lucky on a cheaper deal last month. I just feel like you can get a just as good (or in some cases better) P&S camera for cheaper with the Canon SX230. You may give up a little on the video on that model, but I think the RAW format and the lesser jpeg compression on the SX230 makes it a very good camera even better than the HX9V in some situations. I went with the HX9V because I found a deal for it before I did for a SX230.

damn whats the odds... i logged into my sony account to see how much i paid for the camera.. i paid $332.49 on 6/3/2011... one year to the day.. whats the odds

great camera.. for those that have it i have a cool trick i learned... i was taking a picture of the moon... i put the camera in vga mode.. the lowest rez setting.. you are able to optical and digital zoom it.. take some nice pictures..
