Its pretty sad when poor countries eat sugar and wheat, and we're so effin rich that we eat HFCS and refined flour, wtf?!!?!?!
I've pretty much cut out the junk food and most processed foods, and nowadays only drink Mexican Coke or Throwback Pepsi made with real sugar, might have some more calories but at least it tastes good. I had a Diet Coke yesterday while I was onboard a ship, only thing they had to drink. God damn it tasted nasty! Like water with a little brown coloring and a chemical taste, I'll never understand how people drink something so flavorless. But then I guess it tastes better with a 2,000 calorie lunch  Last edited by MISHNAH; 06-05-2012 at 11:39 AM.. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heal...corn_syrup "General scientific consensus regarding high-fructose corn syrup is that it is likely not significantly more detrimental to health than other types of sugars [wikipedia.org]." Not sure if your comment is saying HFCS is worse than normal sugar, or just sugary drinks in general, but there it is in any case, should the issue come up further on. That's not to say that HFCS is good, just no worse for you than regular sugar. No matter how helpful the feature, how easy it is to disable, or how good your intentions, someone somewhere will hate it and think you're a monster for implementing it.- Anonymous Developer

And the vids the OP posted are two years old. If anything that fat head "discusses" in them is "news" to you, then I feel quite sorry for you. But hey, everyone finds Jesus eventually, right? And HFCS is not "sugar" because sugar is a food. HFCS is a synthetic food additive derived from corn. Sugar is a food: pick a beet, squeeze it - beet juice sugar. Pick sugar cane, break it down - cane sugar. You can't pick corn and get HFCS in the same fashion. There inlies the semantic scam. Keep in mind also that every time you spend $1 on any industrial food stuffs, you're voting to keep the fake food ponzi sceme going. If you don't like it, think it's wrong, evil, unhealthy, whatever, don't finance it. Last edited by barnz008; 06-05-2012 at 12:08 PM.. |

It's credible when the article has a section called references with links to the studies on which the article bases its claims. |

The “vice of specialization” entails the denial of intellect. “It is a denial because it rests on the superstition that understanding is identical with professional skill. The universal formula is: ‘You cannot understand or appreciate my art (science) (trade) unless you practice it.’ ” - Jacques Barzun |

from the study: "Eating a high-fructose diet over the long term alters your brain's ability to learn and remember information. But adding omega-3 fatty acids to your meals can help minimize the damage." so basically eat a normal diet and you're fine. Rumble, young man, rumble. These are interesting times we live in. Punctuation is key. Fruit is nature's candy.

I don't think the evidence of harm was available when HFCS was approved. I would recommend Robert Lustig's speech "Sugar the bitter truth" on Youtube. Mohater started a thread on it in the lounge a couple of months back. Last edited by Doctor_Wu; 06-05-2012 at 01:05 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Because when they decided to use it, there were no studies indicating that it was any more or less harmful than regular sugar. (As you said, that study that suggests it is new). As far as why they decided to use it, because it's cheaper and more cost effective. It's liquid, therefor easier to transport and introduce into products as a sweetener. It's also easier to produce HFCS in the US (given all the corn) than it is to import cane sugar. Last edited by bridgeburner; 06-05-2012 at 01:10 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
