wow, how long does this coupon code last? Just spec'd out a 17" model to an ivy bridge samsung [bestbuy.com] I have been eyeing that costs $1400. with this coupon a similar hp with added bluray and 4x larger ssd boot sector, its only $978, coupon took off $481. Same processor, screen, video card and memory.

Now just to decide to go for broke and add the high end i7-3820QM with 8mb cache which makes it $1246 with the coupon. if this coupon is good for a while i will def get this, just need to think it over. Or going with the i7-3720 adds only $117 to make $1,095. too bad the geforce 675m is not an option, but 650m is still very good.

yes you are right, i wrote that before i noticed you can customize it. still $100 more with same res and no ssd, but better gpu. so if gpu is not a requirement asus is better, but if you need a good gpu hp is better for only $100 more. Not sure how you got only $25 difference.

if anyone could answer this it would be great. What would be better for performance? With the 3610 cpu adding a 7200rpm 1.5TB hard drive? or going with the slightly faster cpu 3720 and sticking with the 1TB 5400 rpm HDD? Just wondering as all the reviews I read about the Samsung I mentioned above stated that the hard drive was the only sore point of the computer as it slowed it down, it has the same 1tb drive. Going up to the next processor is $37 more than going to a faster HDD and sticking with the base cpu.

IMO the 5400 RPM hard drive is the bottleneck of the system. So, if you're looking for best performance then go with the faster Hard drive and the slower CPU. Honestly either processor is probably overkill for 90% of what you'll be doing with this laptop anyways.

The 650m can fit in 11" laptops this guy should have a GTX 675m

I got in on this. Seems like a good deal, not sure why it hasn't gotten more attention. Maybe I'm missing something but I'm pretty happy with it as I've been biding my time for 1080p screen with solid specs and form factor like this.

I didn't notice the standard option for the screen was 1600x900, I thought the upgrade was for anti glare, but it is for the full HD for $150. So I went with that instead as after doing some research saw that the two processors were not far apart in performance. Plus I figured the ssd should hopefully negate any slowness from the 5400hdd. I am sure it is more than I need but I keep my computers, don't upgrade every year so wanted something that will age well. My current setup has been showing its age and running slow so it was time for an upgrade. Close to 6 years old, does most things well but really slow with cs3, 3d software, video editing and anything like that. So going from core duo first Gen to ivy bridge will be great, and my 256mb 7900gs to the 650m 2gb. Plus I paid $2000 for that system in 2006, now paying half for this one because of the coupon, so a great deal.

Yeah, I would have gone with that, or the 670, but its not an option, only the 630 or 650. I read that the 650 is capable of being better than the 660. Just need to overclock it.

I bought my dv7tqe a couple weeks ago when the other 33% off coupon was active, and it's out for delivery now. I'm beyond excited.

Does anyone have recent experience with the build quality of this chassis? My last two laptops have not held up to my somewhat rough treatment. I move it around a lot, and toss it on the sofa, rather than placing it down. So I need something that is sturdy. (but nothing like the Toughbook)

Good for the envy as well, and they need to be custom, won't work on prebuilt models.
