Best sale is when you have 40% off paint and 30% off supplies plus additional $10 off $50.
Still a good deal for those who have to take care of their projects and are planning to buy from sherwin-williams.

They had one in April, not sure when the next one. I would suggest checking historically when they plan this sale may give more idea.

They just had one for Memorial Day weekend - I think it was the 40% one.

SW always seem to do the 40% sale whenever Home Depot has their $5/gallon $20/5 gallon Behr paint sale; HD does those sales on major 3-day holiday weekends. So expect one for Labor Day for sure, probably 4th of July also, dunno about the times in-between. I don't keep track of holidays.

Their regular prices on paints and supplies are quite a bit higher than the Lowes and Home Depots for sure. If you wait for the 40% sales though, the price starts to get more comparable.

Personally, the paint departments at the local Lowes and Home Depot are terrible. At the Home Depot, the worker straight up told me that the two different paint machines are not consistent. I found this out after getting home with two gallons of paint that were clearly different colors. As for Lowes, I didn't like the Valspar paint when I tried it a couple years ago, but I heard that might be improving.

For me, I plan things in advance and know which colors I'm going to get and then just head over when the 40% sale hits. Even if it does end up costing a little bit more, the customer service is worth it to me. They were able to perfectly match a thin piece of pink fabric for our nursery on the first try. They even offered to add additional tint in case the color didn't look right when it went up on the wall.


TLDR: $2 extra cost per gallon + good customer service >>> hassle involved with Lowes/HD.

If you can wait for the 40% off, skip the Lowes and HD brand paints. They are definitely inferior, runny and not very opaque. I bought mine from SW September last year to paint my interiors for this year. They were having the 40% off then so I thought I take advantage but I didn't know when I'm going to start painting. I was waiting for Yelp deals for a painting service but I should have done it Winter or Spring as prices for painting goes up during Summer which is their busiest time of the year. Didn't find any Groupon or LS deals. I also may have to put new flooring first before I do the painting.

Anyway, the nice guy took 40% off and then $10 discount for buying over $50 of paint. I bought several gallons of course of different colors.

A while back, I talked up a manager at a nearby Sherwin during a 40% sale.. Two cans of Duration, less 40% off, less the $10 off $50 coupon. I turned to walk out the door, stopped, and then asked if he'd be willing to duplicate the transaction. He was certainly happy to oblige. Went home with six gallons that day.

I wouldn't buy Sherwin full price. But it sure is good stuff compared to Big Box brands, especially during the sales.

You get what you pay for with SW/HD/Lowest paint qualities. Interior walls, probably doesn't much matter, might save you time with fewer coats but exterior where it will be weathered it is a huge difference. Also if you set up an account with SW their prices becomes much more competitive with HD/Lowes.
