Should I buy a house to save on rent?
My situation: I pay $695/mo for a 1 bedroom apt. Lease is up at the end of August. I've been apt shopping and most apts seem set up to be good deals for 2-3 roommates (800-900/mo) but it's pretty hard to find a decent one for <600/mo.
I live in Erie PA and housing prices are pretty decent I think. I'm considering the pros/cons of buying a house, say 40-50,000 (I'd be a first time homebuyer). I do NOT plan to live here >10 years, however the idea of renting the house out after I move away is kind of interesting to me.
So my main motivations right now are lower/same monthly payment. I have about $4000 cash currently so not a lot for down payment and whatnot.
