True. Going by that logic, a $15K car (brand new) would take you from point A to B just as well as a $300K Rolls Royce. Also, one can live in a $100K house just as well as a $10M mansion. The moral here? People with money buy fancy stuff to satisfy their materialistic hunger, not because it's necessary.

My TAG is 14 years old. Bought it for myself when I landed the job I wanted after college. Love it. Bought one for DH since he kept "visiting" it in the mall while we were dating. His is now 11 years old. I only made the $100 battery replacement mistake once. The Bailey Banks and Biddle store in the mall shipped it out to TAG for a complete clean out and battery change. Took them 2 months to get it back to me. Now I just go to Time After Time store in the mall and get our batteries replaced for $40 each in 30 mins. They last 2 years or more when we get them replaced. We go swimming in the ocean with them, no issues. Have gone scuba diving with the watch once with no issues, but did not try it again.

Same here, but mine was three years old and the crown came off when changing the date. Took it to an authorized dealer and it was sent off of repair and "refurbishment". Bought a Citizen Eco Drive during the two month wait. Got my Tag back and the bill was $350. Tag is sitting in the sock drawer now and my Citizen is on my wrist every day.

Whoa, I thought you were a broke student out of college(usually in debt). If you have the money, and the watch would make you happy... then go for it.

Although, if 2K is only 5% of your savings, you may want to consider putting it down on a home. Interest rates are ridiculously low at this time.

I forgot to add to my post that there are some exceptions to the rule, where quartz can be unique too. i've had my eye on the sarb065 for quite some time, just waiting to bite the bullet on it. also looking at the christopher ward c60 trident w/ bond nato strap for my dive watch.

I am a broke college student but i've been.. "doing work" for the past 4 years so help me save up. My parents support me and I'm not in debt with student loans, thankfully, so I have some hard earned cash on hand. I just don't know if it's worth it to blow on something such as a watch, although I love the grand carrera. I was going to purchase it but now that the price went up, I'm out. :/

Had the opposite experience. Had a reputable watch shop replace the battery in my 1st TAG and it leaked within a week. Thought that was a fluke, so years later had a different watch place change the battery in my 2nd TAG. Same thing happened. Now have an Omega. If it needs service, I'll only send to Omega's authorized service center (also in NJ). I agree that it's a pain to not have your watch for weeks and it does cost more, but when I get it back I know that it's 100% sealed.
