US Bank Credit card Choose your own two 5% cash back categories (even for airticket)

Before you close the account, call cardmember services and attempt to process a product change into the Cash+. I successfully converted mine after a month or two.

It doesn't work that way. You should register any of your card with amazon bill pay. Send that money to your local bank. And still it will be considered as a card transaction. That's how it has been working for past 2 years. I'm not sure if it is changed for new users or new signups.

Certainly not, especially when they offer fares without naming the airline (I've booked several at deep discount where I knew the times but the airlines were hidden on sites like hotwire and cheapoair)

also sometimes consolidators have discounted fares - and some sites will combine fares from different airlines that are not partners to complete your trip

When I used this card to pay rent, it gave me 1% cash back, but didn't cover rent payment charge of $20. So, it does not make sense for me to pay rent with 1% cash back. Do this option give more than 1% cash back?

Was going to ask when the quarters begin for this card but going to the FB link in the OP answered my question. For those with the card, have the 5% categories changed from the current quarter?

Posted 2 hours ago on 8/17: "Cash+ Category enrollment opens today for the next earning period (10/1 through 12/31). Enrolling is easy...just think about how you will use your U.S. Bank Cash+ Card during the upcoming holidays and choose the categories to get the most cash back!"

The reward categories are the SAME as they were the last 2 times. You do have to log in each quarter and pick them again however or choose other ones. But there are no new options.

Applied for the cash+ card this past Saturday. No immediate approval as we usually get with Chase or Citi apps. Called on Monday and all they would say is that it was still pending and would likely be approved. Called on Tuesday via status number and card has been approved. Long time US Bank checking customer but never had a credit card from them. Will see what kind of CL they give.

I did the same thing,,, got the card today.... can anyone tell me how long I need to wait before asking for a credit increase? they gave me a decent amount it's not high enough for my needs....any help would be appreciated.

I called after 2 months to see if I could get an increase from $3000 to $5000 (from the Cash to the Cash+) They told me usually it takes 6 months to be approved for a higher limit and that I was unable to be increased at the time. It is disappointing as I was looking forward to the high rewards but oh well.

thanks for the info.... looks like I'll be wiring them cash every two days to keep clearing the pending charges and letting me run more things through the card. Building a new home,,, so 5% back on building supplies is gonna add up quick...

Oh wow that will definitely add up. I often send them payments in advance in order to get more available credit, even daily at times. One thing I noticed through my spend is that you can effectively overpay the card by scheduling multiple transfers in one day with a sum greater than your balance. I accidentally did this once and had -$800 for my current balance and $3k for my available credit, so essentially 3.8k. This could not be achieved in a single payment as the system blocks it. Payments post in 1 business day.
