Can anyone verify with an Amazon link that you can keep your cloud purchases if bought while Prime but then you do not renew Prime? Mind you, 98% of purchases of Kindle products were free through deal alerts set up outside of Amazon. Prime is $79 yearly and thus far I have been happy with it but retailers change and I want to retain the option of dropping it when Amazon comes out with some policy that makes it no longer worth while. Thumbs up and repped OP for posting the deal I have been waiting for albeit at this point I am waiting for responses on my concerns b4 I consider this purchase. This is an awesome find and post of a deal. Fellow slickdealers need to take the time to rep folks posting this stuff I am always surprised when I see a deal posted, it get a bunch of thumbs up but only a couple people take the time to thank OP. Yes, anyone can get a free Kindle app on any device. And Amazon-purchased content is delivered wirelessly for free to any device. The original post was about the advantage of having free Calibre newspapers and magazines magically and effortlessly appear every morning for free on your Kindle. This is done via the free.kindle.com e-mail address, which can only address a real Amazon Kindle device, not a Kindle app. |

Nook Tablet is light years better. 11.5 hours battery life for reading and 9 hours of video playback time - that's vs. 8 hours for reading and 7.5 hours of video playback on Kindle Fire, 1.0 GB RAM Vs. 512 MB RAM of Kindle Fire, 16 GB content capacity plus 32 GB via microSD card vs. 8 GB capacity of Kindle Fire with no expansion slot. Fully laminated HD screen for reduced glare vs. no lamination of Kindle Fire.
With Nook you can read for free any of 4.5 million eBooks while in any B&N store while drinking coffee. |

I got a kf during the last refurbished sale and i love it. I rooted it and installed a modified kf rom with google play installed. I then flashed ICS and then my wife fell in love with. Now i'm stuck using the playbook i bought her, while my kf has become hers lol.

Okay so I've noticed that this thread is full of negative comments about the fire. I don't really understand why. I purchased the refurb $139 deal a couple of months back and couldn't be happier. Great display. The battery life is never a problem (yes I realize the specs show it at 8 hours or whatever but that's plenty of time... just plug it in every now and then). I understand the complaint about no SD card slot but really? It's not that big of a deal. You don't need more than 8 GB for this device. It's purpose is not for big storage.
I use mine mainly for internet browsing and it works perfectly. Loads every site (yes to flashplayer) and seems to be fully compatible. I'd rather hit a button and browse than wait for a laptop to start up - benefits of a tablet. Name a tablet at a cheaper price than $139... I guess in this case $169. It's the best bang for your buck and that's what slickdeals is all about. If you want an iPad, by all means, go buy it because yes, the iPad is better. But it costs $600. And really doesn't give you that much more for usefulness. Stop the whining. |

You don't have to be prime member to enjoy the benefits of the kindle.
I will list the benefits separately to avoid confusion Prime member benefits Free 2 day shipping Free unlimited video streaming from selected movies, programs, etc. Kindle owner benefits Free kindle email to deliver third party books directly to your device. Prime member + kindle owner benefits You can borrow one book per month from selected reading materials You don't have to be a prime member or kindle owner to enjoy the purchase you make through the Amazon cloud. I hope this helps.

I never considered a Kindle Fire b/c of the lack of a webcam. Our kids like to skype with relatives and don't think that's a possibility on a Fire without the webcam. fwiw, Office Depot (in-store only) is clearing out the Lenovo K1 for $199, maybe cheaper with coupon/PM. After you update the tablet with multiple patches it's pretty stable and the same size as an iPad. My daughter (7) uses it to read books via the Kindle app, watch netflix videos, skype, and play games so it serves its purpose well. Stock varies by location though.
