tp4tissue, I didn't buy the 9800 GT, it came with my PC. While I don't game, I do use it for both work and as a media center, with a 2560x1600 as my main display, and occasionally kicking video over to 1920x1200 while I work on the 30". I have no doubt that's nowhere near using the 9800 GT's horsepower, but would rather not go integrated. So I guess the real question is if there's a quiet low profile GPU that could roughly match the 9800 while not doing 60C idle at 50% fan. |

OK. I have an integrated NVidia GeForce 6150SE in an HP Pavilion Slimline s5623w PC. After looking over the specs (http://h10025.www1.hp.

I have a 5670 in a 180watt psu and it's been just fine for a year (pentium dual core intel with it)ps. Yes, totally worth getting for video playback and mild gaming. Last edited by lightfoot3b; 06-10-2012 at 12:07 AM.. 700 Total SSD's handled between two jobs. Plextor M3s, M5s, Crucial M4s, Intel 320s, and Samsung 470/830s are reliable. 2 M4 failure among ~200 of them. Sandforce Sata II controlled drives, 6 RMAs among ~175 units. There, now you know why I post like I do, professional, personal experience.
If you are going to ask "what deal was that?" or" where can I find out about deal so and so?" use the search feature on SD or Google first. |

Your 9800GT probably has some problem if idling at 60C and 50% fan. Try cleaning the heatsink, probably full of dust. If this does not work, I would replace the thermal paste. Also make sure your case is not clogged up with dust and fans are still working.
I don't believe in paying full price

It's in a smallish HP Pavilion case so I know airflow isn't the greatest, but I've gutted the stuff I don't use and cleaned the cables up so it's relatively open. The fan works fine, but it exhausts straight up toward the PSU rather than out the back like most current cards. From googling around it seems like this thing just runs hot period. I have RivaTuner profiles set up, and in a 78F room I see 60C GPU at 50-60% fan. In the winter with the room at 65F I see more like 55C at 40-50% fan. Adding a 120mm fan blowing straight across the GPU will drop temps 7-8 C, I think, but it's noisy even at 5-7 volts. I was hoping that 3 year newer cards would be available that had decent output with a fraction of the heat. |
