Re the Nokia Drive - WIll this work as a standalone GPS or does it need constant network connection? Can I load up my route in advance or at a wifi spot and then it will work w/o a cell data connection?

I've been enjoying off-line Nav through Nokia Drive for the past few months. Having used Google Navigation for several years. Nokia Drive is just as good, and in some ways, even better.

GoVoice is similar to Groove IP. Not quite as good but it's a solid alternative.

WhatsApp Messenger is available for Windows Phone.

No data connection needed AT ALL. You can search for POI's off-line. Just select the states you want and download. Of course, if you have data it will also search the on-line database. I don't have data on my phone (pre-paid minutes). I use the GPS often - works great without data.

Anyone have info. re a sip/voip app that would support free domestic GV calling + Localphone in one app.? Something like Acrobits Softphone on ios?

It's only partially the fault of those uneducated about the WP for knocking WP...the other half is all the people involved in the marketing of the OS, that being MS and the carriers. The operating system is absolutely a delight to use, and while you can't hack it like you can Andorid and it is still missing some key customizations, it has a bright future ahead of it (if you've actually tried one out).

Apps...just remember, doesn't matter if you have 100,000 Apps or 1,000,000,000 Apps if you only use 10 of them.

And yes, I have a WP and use a Lumia 710 myself. Not a basic phone...nobody would charge that much for just a basic phone. Please...say things...with some thought put into them.

Worst still, that phone has no T-mobile 3G.

Does the 710 have the UMA? I don't get good reception, but have used Samsung Galaxy S well for the past year.

I agree WP 7.5 is the best phone OS out there. I bought a WP 7.5 phone after getting bored with my EVO Android phone. You can hack the Android, but who cares, I get better integration on the WP 7.5 and more functionality built in. As a phone it is just better...no crashes, better social integration, battery lasts for almost a day.

Go for the 710 if you are on the fence, good phone. I have the HTC Arrive, I needed a keyboard but 710 is better.

100,000 Apps in the Windows store, faster than it took to get to 100K for Android. It is the fastest App marketplace out there, and with Win 8 coming out in a few months it will be at the top shortly.

It's easy to cut out the regular sim to make a micro-sim or T-mobile may even give you micr-sim if you ask them.
