LED computer monitor
Hey All,First post here...although I've been using SD for some time now. My roommate moved out and I am reconfiguring a few things in the house (with a budget). Each item has requirements/notes listed below...hopefully that makes it easier to answer any questions. PC MONITOR I was using a 47" LED TV, which is now being used as my primary TV. I don't need something that big, it was nice while it lasted COST: Sub $150 with shipping. SIZE: 22"+ TYPE: LED monitor, HD INPUTS: HDMI OTHER INFO: Don't really need it to have speakers...many times built-in speakers are garbage. Within my price-range, this is to be expected. Maybe I'll look into speakers while I'm at it, if the price is right. I missed that HP deal a few days ago for the $115 w/ free shipping ![]() SHREDDER COST: Sub $30 with shipping TYPE: x-cut shredding, doesn't need to go through CDs or CC's. OTHER INFO: Looks like Newegg will have a nice deal on a Rosewill one in a few hours. Looks reasonably priced without the daily deals price. WIRELESS ROUTER COST: sub $40 with shipping. TYPE: WIRELESS N OTHER THOUGHTS: I've read tons of reviews, and I'm not partial to any brand. Seems like some of the mid-range single-band Netgear routers will get the job done once the firmware is updated. We were using a WNR3500 and it was so-so. I'll be hooking up a PC, PS3, Xbox360, two android phones and a signal booster for the phones. Don't do a ton of streaming, but Hulu+ is looking like a much better option than cable... Thanks in advance! NOTE: router and shredder purchased, thread title updated Last edited by TranceG8; 06-11-2012 at 11:08 AM.. Reason: updated title, 2 items found |

Why do you require an "LED" monitor. Do you understand the difference between "LCD" and "LED-LCD?"
Why does the monitor need HDMI if it won't have speakers? DVI works just as well and your computer surely has a DVI output. This would seem to be the best option at newegg that meets your criteria: Acer S230HLAbii Black 23" 5ms HDMI LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor [newegg.com] - $140 Shipped |

I do know some of the technical differences between LCD and LED. Honestly, I love the brightness/color accuracy of LED-LCDs over traditional LCDs... I have used both (without playing too much with the adjustments) and LED based screens seem to work better for me. Then again, it could be a placebo effect. I have a 19" ViewSonicLED monitor at work which recently replaced an LCD monitor. The difference was immense. I love the super thin monitor look also, but NOT a requirement since it's going on a huge desk.
You do make a fair point about HDMI (which I know carries both audio and video signals).... That will save me a few bucks then... Makes even more sense if I'm going to use external speakers anyway, not sure what I was thinking there. Good news is my GC has 2 DVI ports and one mini HDMI (came with a mini HDMI-to-HDMI cable). Thanks for pointing this out, it's been a long couple of days! Last edited by TranceG8; 06-11-2012 at 01:00 PM.. |

I agree with the OP IPS - LED is the way to go. I bought one from Dell last friday.
IPS -LED is where it's at. You are also correct on-board Speakers being garbage too. https://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/monitors-outlet I got the U2312HM 23-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor for 189.99 with 17.99 shipping not a bad price though it is refurb. I get it in the mail tomorrow. |
