If you can still find one of these (2TB 5900rpm with 64MB cache and a 5-year warranty) at your local BB for $92.99, before tax, the price comes out the same but you'll get a bit longer warranty. BB is clearing out the older "5-year warranty" Seagate HDs.

Alright, I'm in. You win price gouging hard drive manufactures.
Had already settled on this 5900rpm drive in my mind for my NAS after seeing some benchmarks a while back and was just waiting patiently for some sort of deal to come up. I figured I would never see a hard drive that was actually endorsed by SD'ers as being reliable so I had to get something. Specs at Seagate [seagate.com] (pdf file) has Annualized Failure Rate at 0.34% which is lower than the ~0.64%ish that Seagates's DVR optimized storage drives for comparison. I didnt dig enough to compare that to other brands but just thought I would share the stat since it was some actual data on fail rate. If anyone has the stats for other models and brands post em up so others can compare. I checked worstbuy as DQue mentioned and didn't see this drive There were some other (presumably 7200rpm) models that might have been sub $100 but I wasn't interested enough to create an account to find out. I probably should have dug deeper considering they might be the older ones people here feel are more reliable and have the longer warranty but I'm ok with being done shopping. thanks OP |

I'm about ready to throw in the towel but feel that if I do there will be an awesome deal next week.
I checked BB, there aren't any good deals there that I can see. Certainly nothing for 99.99 or 92.99 on their site. Maybe it's store by store, in store, but if you need 4 drives...that's a lot of searching. |

Wouldn't this be a better deal?
2TB, 64MB cache, 7200RPM. Seagate retail. Amazon. $110 http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Bar...roduct_to Last edited by duenor; 06-12-2012 at 11:02 AM.. After seven years of SD, I've come to conclude that Slickdealers are protein-powder guzzling, pistol packing, cheap-ass video game nerds.
