Epson 3010 3D 1080p projector with 2 paris of glasses $1300 shipped from Amazon

great deal !
i have this projector.
i have done a very intensive research before getting this one.
read all the bad negative reviews everywhere
here is my take:
never seen ANY noticeable delay with gaming. it works flawlessly.
the IRIS does make some noise, but my projector is on the ceiling and i shoot onto a 120" screen.
with just a lil bit of volume on my amp i rarely notice the IRIS "clicking" sound.
the glasses are lightweight and almost 170 degrees viewing angle.
i am very happy.

I really was leaning HD33 because of the slight edge in gaming according to reviews, and the price. But this one DOES have 2 included 3d glasses vs the HD33. Dammit!! now i gotta go through decision process again. Continue to drop the price Optoma!

3010 doesn't have lens shift, a very important feature IMHO. Must wait for the 5010 to drop

I agree with you, but its going to be a loooong time before 5010 gets anywhere near $1500.

Thanks! That is very helpful. I was somewhat concerned about the gaming delay, even though I don't play that often.

Ok I think i got it. Keystone correction is the digital adjustments, so it is susceptible to picture quality degradation. Lens shift is all with the lens' so it won't affect any picture quality.

Seems like a solid unit. But since I am still one month from moving in to my new house, probably not so smoking that I should buy now and install later.

I got one the month it came out from BB for ~$1300 after all said and done (don't ask how ). I previously owned/used and still have an epson 8100 as well.

Pros:
---Very bright. Even using a wall and a ~160" projected image, 3D looks great. For smaller sizes, would work great even with less controlled lighting. I recommend "IMAX: The Ultimate Wave - Tahiti [Blu-ray 3D] " from amazon for anyone with a 3D projector, is only $11.50 and had some awesome scenery shots, and underwater shots with fish and reefs, and some 3D graphics mixed in.

Cons:
--3D blu rays are expensive (~$20-$40) and nowhere I know of to rent them, plus limited selections available
---Mine gets hung up when blu-ray player (I use PS3) switches between tracks. Starts projecting on/off black screen and video with the 3D until I change the input to HDMI2 and back to HDMI1. This would be when going from FBI notice to Studio logo to Menu to Movie, etc. Its an improvement from my 8100 I guess which "didnt like" 2 of the 3 blu-ray players I had and would completely freeze up in these situations until manually power-cut that Epson support said was "as designed" to protect it when it got an abnormal video signal....
---Minor? blacks not that great but that's moreso due to the brightness I think
---Input lag with 3D. Useable for games like batman but wasn't useable for me for racing games, etc. I'm not a big console gamer so did not try many 2D console games so no idea if same lag when not 3D
---No lens shift. I knew this when I purchased though and decided not to pay the difference to the 5010. I hate hate hate digital keystone correction, but most people say they can't tell any difference.. I think they're nuts. This mainly just affects you if you wanted to use it portably and setup at different locations quickly and if you care about image quality.

My Cons list appears larger than the Pros list above, but really I am very happy with it. Just not many tiny bulletpoints for the pros because it met and exceeded my expectations when purchasing. The projectorcentral review someone linked above mentioned flickering and lots of crosstalk, I strongly disagree. There is very slight crosstalk in my setup that can be noticed where there is a line of white next to black, but I see this in the commercial theatre as well. There's no flickering that I notice. They could have had a bad unit or something. I suspect that the "crosstalk" is in some cases is from the source of the 3D blu-ray for "3d-converted" 2d-movies, but could be incorrect.


I have 1000 or so hours on it so far. My 8100 had the first bulb blow at 1200 or so hours, so hopefully the 3010 does not. *Yes, epson sent me a replacement bulb on the 8100 free of charge.

The zoom allows the same short throw distance, you just can't put the projector as far away from the screen for the same size.

For example, if you want to project an image that is 112' diagonal, you can place an 8100/8350 with the 2.1:1 lens between 11 and 23 1/2 ft from the screen. You can place the 3010 between 11 and 17 1/2 ft from the screen for the same 112' diagonal image.

The 3010 with no lens shift projects an image that has the center of the bottom edge of the image in direct line with the projector lens like below

I bought one about 4 months ago when it was $1349 - $130 GC from Best Buy. It's a nice unit, very bright. I've had a few issues with it however. First, my own fault but not having lens shift can be quite a big deal. The second is my original bulb blew with about 41 hours on it. If these bulbs are supposed to last thousands of hours.... wow $299 apiece is going to get expensive.

Epson's policy is - 3 month or 500 hour warranty if > 3 monthson the bulbs. Anything else and you're SOL.

actually if you call their support number they should cover it for the full 2 years, (unless something's changed). It's an official unofficial policy for all the home theatre line of projectors because they had some bulb issues on the 8100s. You may want to call epson to confirm, but I did so last year just before purchasing the 3010 and they said the 3010 they would also cover bulbs throughout the original manufacturer warranty.

Regardless, with any projector I would recommend using a solid UPS and keeping the room climate controlled while its on. Also, follow directions in manual for clearances around the projector, it has intake/outtake vents -- although on the 3010 these are on the front so they would be hard to block. It also needs clearance on the top because it also dissipates heat through the casing.

I would like 2 PARIS of glasses with my projector

Kinda hard choosing between this and an 82" DLP. Both have the the issue with bulb replacement. I know projector image can be bigger (100-120" screen), but does anyone know what will give a crisper picture?

I'm debating between the Epson 3010 and the Mitsubishi 82740. Both should be the same price after factoring in the price of a decent screen.
