The 3 for sure, the display is amazing

![]() Unless you're going to be watching a LOT of HD movies and videos, you don't really need the Retina Display. Now I'm sure people will quote the higher specs that the iPad 3 has, but having used both the iPad 2 and the iPad 3, I can safely say that 99.99% of most apps showed me no noticable difference in performance. Sometimes some apps felt that opened a little faster...just the tiniest bit faster...but that's it. The BIGGEST difference is the upgrade to the camera. Now if you're going to rely on the camera for Skype and if this is a huge deciding factor, then I could see why one would choose the iPad 3 because the camera in the iPad 2 sucks. It's barely 0.7 megapixel. ![]() When it was time for me to upgrade from my iPad 1, I didn't buy the iPad 3, but for the same money bought a like new iPad 2 64gb wifi+3g with an additional year of AppleCare on it. People were selling their iPads like crazy before the release of the iPad 3. Now I didn't care about the camera. So you've got to keep that in mind while deciding. Though I'm sure that more and more apps are coming out with retina-display compatible upgrades, it's not worth it. And if you get the iPad 3 16gb, you'll soon run out of space. So my vote? iPad 2. Rep unto others as you would have them Rep unto you.

I also say 2 UNLESS you like the better camera, the better display, or the better graphic performance for whatever reasons. I went for the 3 for graphic performance, but that's mainly because of work stuff.
Size wise they are so close to identical that you won't notice a differnce unless you get close & compare them side by side. |

When the 3 came out, there were tons of complaints about heat, some folks even saying that it got too hot to hold. I don't know if it was a problem with one batch, or if all of them were like that but Apple fixed it and the new ones are OK, or if people were exaggerating. I do know that some reputable companies bench-marked the temps and they were substantially higher than the 2, which is why we bought the 2 instead. |

Because of this reason alone OP, I recommend the 3. As someone who owns both currently and holding side by side, against what anyone else says, you have to really look in order to notice the sharpness unlike how noticeable it was with the iPhone 3GS vs iPhone 4 when the retina display came out. Having said that though, the newer model will ensure you're able to support updates much longer and as more and more Apps update to support Retina Display, you're going to want the newer model. |

As for heat, it's less of a issue if you use a case like the Otterbox or the new full body smart cover case. The retina display is pretty nice for web browsing. Everything is so sharp. 1024x768 just doesn't cut it. OP you can go to a local Apple store to compare the 2. |

I was about to say the same thing. Some people wouldn't see a joke if it hit them on the head with a baseball bat.We realize that the the newer firmwares would soon not be supported on the original iPad...but then again, the OP isn't thinking about the original iPad is he? The choice is between the iPad 2 or 3. And I don't see any reason why any update for the iPad 3 would not be supported on the iPad 2.http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/ iOS 6 WILL be supported on the iPad 2. The ONLY 2 things that should make a big difference when deciding which iPad to get, should be camera and retina display. Apparently SIRI is coming to the iPad 3 with the iOS 6 update and it won't be available on the iPad 2... But I couldn't care less about SIRI. I have it on my iPhone and I barely use it. Yes, we know the retina display is soooo sharp. But if the OP is NOT going to be watching a lot of HD movies, then the Retina Display won't make a difference. Yes, the number of apps that support Retina Display are increasing, but it really comes down to how badly he wants the sharper display? And if the OP is NOT going to be using the camera for video calls then the camera doesn't make a difference. Also- someone stated that
Heck, I'm not trying to start a war here. I'm just saying that it's pointless to recommend the iPad 3 by pointing out features that the OP wouldn't consider a priority.Speaking of which. Where is the OP? I'd like to hear what he has to say.
