Also depends on the blade you're using and the exact material you're working with. I haven't actually used mine past turning it on to make sure it works yet but I don't expect to get a perfectly smooth and clean cut with the cheapy stock blade it came with. It's not going to matter for the first couple of projects I have lined up but I might fire it up tomorrow to test it on a piece of scrap. I'm kinda curious to see how well everything is lined up out of the box anyway.

Keeping in mind this is coming from a novice, I believe it really depends on what you're going to use it for. If you're going to be doing a lot of trim work, the double-bevel might reduce the number of times you need to swing/flip your work piece around to get the opposite-angle bevel. Personally, I couldn't imagine this being a huge help if you're doing mostly +/- 45 degree bevels but I welcome any corrections from the more experienced out there.

Also, for the record, the sliding version has stayed on 'sale' at the $200 mark for a few weeks now IIRC so it's rather hard to say how good of a deal that one really is. Most of the other mitres I've been pondering over at Sears have bounced back up to or close to their list price during that period.

LOL - I was doing the same thing. I didn't need anything professional, just wanted something with decent reviews and everything I found on CL was either beyond my experience level (and price range) or a PoS. This price comes close to some of the lower prices I saw in my area for similar equipment. Of course YMMV on that one.

If you want to spend a bit more and need something a bit bigger, this is a pretty good deal too IMHO. I believe this is the one they had on sale for about a month up until about a week or two ago for $150. That's the one I was originally going to get but they either took it off sale early, or more likely, I remembered the 'Good Thru' date wrong.
At least it gave me time to realize I didn't need something quite that big and I saved a few extra bucks.

I picked up a 7 1/4 miter saw for $20 from the site. It was a never used floor model with all the parts except the box.

how does this craftsman compare to the Lowe's Skil miter that's on sale? I was going to get all the bells and whistles of a DeWalt, but I really don't need it....

I'd totally bite on this if I saw this first, but I was able to score a used one at a yard sale a few weeks ago for $15...just need to replace the plastic handle (oddly enough).

Now I'm on the hunt for a decent table saw. I can't seem to find them with wheels though. I don't have a space to dedicate to a table saw, so I'll need it to be mobile.
