Yes, it is true. The price is a $40 savings so invest the saving in the extra batteries, screen protectors.

Still debating on if I need all of this stuff or just some of the items in the extra kits. The finger prints on the screen are annoying but it all depends on how greasy the user's hands are from the start. So I would recommend operating the camera with clean dry non greasy hands. I would not worry too much just don't eat greasy food then slightly wipe your hands on a napkin and think that it is enough to keep the camera from slipping out your hands. I just replaced my ELPH 300 that died with in a month of purchase because I did not take the warnings and cautions seriously. I really did not want to invest in another camera so soon. However I thought I would give Canon another shot. I am a little frustrated with all the extra stuff I need to buy in order to operate the camera. They just don't make cameras like they use to. This camera is cool but I am thinking about buying an older model used Canon as a back up. I am really not happy with quality of the newer model cameras and there is not much to choose from so if you are going to choose than stick with Canon.

I have a feeling the price will go down even lower because everyone is catching on to the common problems of cameras designed like Canon ELPH 510.

This camera takes great pictures and has great reviews however you need to be very careful in handling this camera. Most of people that put up those reviews have not owned the camera long enough to warn you about the problems that will develop if you do not follow the warning and cautions list at the beginning of the manual. Especially the one about Do not operate this camera in a windy environment. Which means do not operate this camera in any type of wind which can be very hard and frustrating to judge. The most common problem of the camera is lens malfunction error. This problem develops when dust and sand gets inside the lens mechanism. It is really hard to prevent dust and sand from collecting over time in the lens mechanism. Canon's 1 year warranty does not cover repair of the lens or any kind of damage to the lens of the camera. To repair the lens malfunction problem is very expensive the cost is about the same as buying another camera $90-$120.

So if you don't mind paying $159 for a disposable camera this camera is for you.

This style camera is very fragile and it is not just Canon, Sony, and Nikon have a similar design. Make sure you read the manual and take all the long list of warnings and cautions while operating the camera very seriously to extend the life of your camera otherwise your camera will break within a month of purchase as a result of not following the manual.

I still can't get over the warning about wind and the do not take pictures in bright sources of light. Many people complain about the short battery life well I found out you must deplete the battery and take the battery out of the camera and store it in the battery sleeve to get the most of out the battery otherwise your battery won't last very long. I am looking into buying a back up battery for my Canon. I also want to warn about charging the battery too long. I use a timer or an alarm to remind me to disconnect the charger so that I don't damage the battery.

The most important thing you need to do is monitor the climate while operating this camera and make sure you follow the warning and cautions list in the manual or your camera will have a short life. I had to learn the hard way because I choose to take pictures at the beach. I did not think a little wind would damage my camera but it did and the shocking part is does not take much dust or sand to collect between the lens mechanism to get the lens malfunction error and once that happens you can't take pictures or video and you may as well buy another camera because the repair cost is too high and makes no sense to pay for a repair when you can just buy a new camera. They just don't make cameras like they use to. Good Luck with your new Canon and don't make the same mistakes that I did. HTH

Keep in mind this model only has touchscreen controls to most functions. There are very few buttons. This can be hard to use for some people.

I though i was the only. I had the ELF750 I think like 2003 and went through a few of the newer ELF cameras and the 750 seems to take better pictures
