Logitech Harmony 200 Universal Remote Control, New, $10.00 Walmart BM YMMV

Nice remotes if you don't need anything fancy.

I bought two refurbs from 1saleaday.com, and they have these still at their "Bens Outlet" site for $9.99 with free shipping.

They are refurbs... couple of notes:

1. They don't use the same app I was used to with my Harmony 880 and 659 remotes. They use a web-based app that requires Silverlight installed and some DLLs to handle the remote.
2. Don't expect "Activities" - these are just basic 3-device remotes, but they work well.
3. One of the refurbs I got just kept flashing the device buttons repeatedly with batteries installed. Turns out I had to reset them with a special procedure: Remove Batteries, Press and hold "2", While holding "2" insert the batteries, release "2", resynch using the web app. That worked for me.

Good deal if it can be duplicated. I have bought 6 of these within the last week between 1saleaday, newegg, and macmall. So far I am very satisfied with the price and features of these. I have Westinghouse TVs which are normally known for never taking universal remotes and both TVs have taken without a problem.

I also have these setup(With minimal capacity)for my work remote controlling about 7 different kinds of TVs.

I may check Walmart tomorrow and grab one more for work.

can this be used to turn on and off an HTPC? I noticed it does not come with an infrared adapter for PC.
I've heard many people mention they use Harmony remotes for this purpose, controlling windows media center, xmbc, etc, but I have no idea how if it doesn't come with an adapter for pc. I don't see anything sold separately for this purpose by logitech either

You can buy a windows remote and use the adapter. I have my 880 set up to control WMC which I use to watch TV, XBMC and HULU. I also have different scripts set up that will start each app I mentioned while closing the others and even have my Harmony set to control the mouse if I need it. Here are a couple good links. You won't be able to do all that with this remote, but if you ever upgrade to a better Harmony, these links will come in handy.

If you check the reviews, both have been purchased just for their ir receivers. Here's a review regarding the first remote:

You can purchase the remotes just for their ir receivers, or you can use the remotes directly to control your media center pc.

I purchased the second one and am currently using that one, including the remote itself. I don't have extra devices such as a dvd player or receiver to control, so this was adaquate by itself.

I don't have media center on the pc I bought this remote for. I am using it for XBMC. I had some luck too with media portal.

I can't say about whether the remote will turn on a pc. It will turn it off or put it to sleep, at least it should. Mine works this way. But my pc's motherboard doesn't allow for a remote to turn the pc back on afterwards.

Also, I just found another review regarding the cheaper remote. This review cites the logitech harmony 200:

This would suggest the harmony 200 can be configured for use with this remote's ir receiver. I wouldn't have direct experience myself about that.

Has anyone checked their local Walmart to see if this can be duplicated? I need a cheap universal for this weekend, and the 200 seems perfect. $7 spread from website to B&M isn't a big deal, but if I can save $7 I'd like to.
