Btw, I picked up the Peak unit Friday afternoon. They did an override and gave me the $10 off, and printed the rebate form. When I got home I plugged it in to charge it for the recommended 34/36 initial charge. However, after it was fully charged I tried to jump start my dead car (92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD stick) and it didn't turn over. I've never used one of these things so maybe I did something wrong. I followed the instructions both in the car and charger manuals (red to +, black to chasis, same way I've always connected jumper cables). Should I have waited a few minutes, and if so how long? The battery has enough juice to dimly power the dash lights and seat belt motor, but it's basically dead. The unit otherwise works, e.g. pump, lights, USB. When I called AAA several days ago, he used a portable unit and it got the car started in no time. It didn't seem much bigger but perhaps it has a lot more power? Btw, they tried to sell me a battery, but I declined. When I checked with my mechanic, they told me that AAA batteries weren't that good. Any experience with them? They didn't mention Bosch, but recommended Interstate and Sears. Are those good? Update: I just tried to charge my dead battery again with this unit, using the same setup as above, only this time I let it charge for 6-7 minutes first. Still nothing. The engine wouldn't turn over. So I connected the black "-" clamp to the battery's "-" terminal instead of to the chasis (which I know you're not supposed to do to avoid the risk of an explosion due to sparks, but which is how the AAA guy did it). What do you know, the engine turned over immediately this time. Looks like this unit's a keeper and I can send in my rebate. If it's approved, it'll end up costing me just under $30 including tax. Of course, who knows how long it'll last. The warranty's only 90 days! Last edited by KMan; 06-17-2012 at 12:52 PM.. Reason: Update |

My experience today (6/18/12). I went to Pepboys on 6/15 and they were sold out and said stop Monday we are getting more. Website today still has Part # PKC0BJ SKU: 9216154 for $54.98. I went in the store with my coupon and a copy from the website. In store it rang up as $89.99 (regular price). I showed the manger the print out and we pulled it up on my tablet from the website and it showed $54.98. He would not sell it to me in store for that price. He made me stand at the counter and order it from my tablet and do store pickup. Doing this I was not able to use the coupon. When I asked if I could have a rebate form he said he didn't have any. I am going to print the one in the thread and try my luck. I would have done the AdvanceAuto deal but I really needed the air compressor.
When I asked the manager why he made me order it online he said he could not honor that price. I said it's all the same vendor (pepboys). I asked if he ever honored online pricing and it said yes, sometimes but would not tell me what his criteria was. He said if it's a couple bucks. What's the cutoff? The ad does not say on-line only and it was obviously that price on Friday. Sooo...OTD price was $58.83 (no coupon with tax) and I am going to attempt the $20 rebate. It I get it and by OTD priced drops to $38.83 it's a slickdeal, $60, not so much. |

The store gave me "PKC0BK" instead of "PKC0BJ" for the internet price. It is a bit nicer unit with 200w inverter and gauges. But now I won't get my rebate! because that form is for "PKC0BJ".
Were people getting the "PKC0BJ" in the store? Is there a rebate for for "PKC0BK"? By the way, I couldn't use the coupon either, they wouldn't accept it because it was already on sale. |

I got mine today and it looks like my Harbor Freight yellow (40615) one with 650amps (1200 amps peak) is built much better and has a charger that turns off itself. The harbor freight unit needs no transformer. You just plug it into 110v and the unit stops charging when it's charged. This peak unit you will have to unplug the unit after 36 hrs. The HF one is heavy, but this Peak one is light so it's easier to handle. There are two batteries in the HF one.
Still deciding whether or not I should keep it but I only used a 10% coupon. Should have used the $10 coupon instead. Last edited by garyhgaryh; 06-27-2012 at 01:13 AM.. Reason: Include HF model # |

Just wanted to report back today to let everybody know that I already received my rebate check today. I mailed the rebate out on 6/19/12. I was extremely surprised to receive the rebate check so quick. I used the $10 coupon which required an override too, so I bought it for about $48 after tax. After this $20 rebate, it came out to $28 for this. Really slick deal!! Thanks again OP!
