If people won't take the time to do a small amount of research, and don't know the value of an item, it's their own fault they paid to much. Many pay those prices because of the convenience. They don't want to wait for Amazon to ship their item, they want it now, at whatever price. Just because their prices are higher doesn't mean they are ripping customers off.

If you've been regularly ripped off by Staples and other retailers, you are the one that is naive. Nobody forces you to buy anything from Staples. If they are the only ones that carry a particular item, and people willingly pay that price, then that's the retail value of that item. If you don't like the price, don't buy the item. They price their items based on a particular sales model, including the use of coupons on a percentage of their orders, and certain large accounts getting bulk discounts. If Amazon wants to share their bulk discount with the little guy, that's their prerogative - in theory that's what Walmart does too.

Mail order has existed much longer than the internet. Even hear of a magazine called Computer Shopper? Those types of items were available,you just had to work a bit for your discount.

Does Staples make any money when you purchase that item from Amazon?

When the hell did amazon become a low price store? People delude themselves into thinking Walmart has low prices but now Amazon? Neither store identifies itself as a low cost leader.

That overhead is self inflicted as stores have had ridiculous expansions. B&M can still exist but they need to drastically reduce stores and reduce the "showroom" overhead. Staples has "20 results within 20 miles of 90210" The future of retail is 1-2 stores per area that act as a showroom/warehouse.

Well Amazon does have lower prices on certain things.

Many things are still MSRP though.

The only reason I buy at Amazon at MSRP without giving it a second thought, is because I don't have to pay sales tax. Instant like 10% savings right there, with the cost of driving to the store.

When September comes by and California is going to start collecting amazon tax, my order volume will probably decrease because I make many impulse buys on the tax and the fact of "Well..I could get it today with tax and gas..or I can save that money and wait 2 days from Amazon.."

...now one of those is out of the equation, so I will have to think harder about every purchase I make now.

Aww, no more super cheap monitor deals. Very hard to believe Staples wasn't turning the other cheek. What stopped them from just making their coupon generation scheme more robust?

Staples has slimy, greasy Romney Bain Capital vulture claw prints all over it, and China is where they outsourced umpteen American jobs in their vampiric fast-and-loose profiteering... kind of all adds up.

That prime membership wasn't free and now you will be more profitable to amazon as your orders decrease. Without that it is 3-7 days + tax for amazon purchases + MSRP.

If you live where I live...it's worth every single cent.

Only the domains were seized. It doesn't look like any arrests were made. If Staples doesn't actually do anything to fix their system these sites will just pop back up under domains outside of US control. I honestly don't know why a business like this would use a site the US could touch.
