The following websites has been taken down

sderclub dot com
staples.brinkster dot net
ccccpn dot com
e-junkie dot com marketplace for staples coupon
urlhasbeenblocked dot com (says maintenance) staples ez coupon

YEAY! no more rewards stealing!!
NO!.. but no more coupons.

AS mathfaster pointed out, this is all true. and they actually SEIZED the websites above.

This domain name has been seized by ICE - Homeland Security Investigations, pursuant to a seizure warrant isseud by a United States District Court orer under the authority of 18 U.S.C 981. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I MIGHT EVER SAY THIS!!!! DON'T BOTHER READING THE THREAD!!! Yes, the take downs were done by ICE, that's real someone else can post the links in the Wiki.

The 1st part of thread is mostly is it real & what now.
Middle is a support group & mourning the loss of all the PM & Coupon deals.
The last is a 4 way cat fight. Per usual no, one changed there mind, everyone is right & the other people are wrong & morals are in the Eye of the beholder.
Opinions are like A.H.s everyones got one... etc. There saved you 11 pages. hugWink Grouphug

It has become clear without question the sites selling Staples coupons and rewards were being stolen from legitimate Staples Customers. The person or persons operating the sites are based in China, and were shut down because they were breaking U.S law. The Chinese government continues to resist cooperating or assist in the prosecution of it's citizen stealing intellectual property rights from U.S. businesses and stealing from individual consumers

Each person has to decide if it's acceptable to them to buy stolen coupon codes and reward checks that belong to another person.

Why? We can still contact PayPal to get our money back!

Obviously the take-down is a scam! It is not within jurisdiction of Home Land Security to deal with such matter. That picture on the site with the badge does not look funny to your guys???? Give me break!

SDER just closed the door itself and use the Home Land Security take-down picture to scare account holder away from asking $ back for the account balance! -Smilie

Paypal does not guarantee transactions involved intangible goods. Your best bet is through CC company but if your CC does a chargeback instead of just taking the loss and giving you back money, Paypal may suspend your account. There's something in their T&C saying you're not allowed to do chargeback after using their resolution process.

I agree.... Take a look at the page source, specifically at the image:

Whatever the real situation may be, we can at least say that the change in rewards (and maybe coupon) codes is causing them enough hassle that they are shutting down for now. They may come back with a vengeance in days to come - time will tell for sure. It is a pity that many people seem to have lost their money.

Should people who got coupons from that site worry about legal repercussions?

go to ebay and search "staples coupon". About 250 hits will come up.

If buying (and selling) coupons had legal repurcussions ebay would be sh*tting their pants right now, but since ebay is not sh*tting their pants right now that means there is nothing to worry about.

In other words, ebay is like sderclub on steroids so if the takedown was real, it was because of some activity like money laundering (because they were non-US based) etc, not the coupon part.

I'm actually slightly leaning towards the fact that ccccpn may have actually been taken down by DHS/ICE. That image shows up for halfpricemovieticket dot com as well. That site was taken down by ICE: http://www.dotweekly.com/ice-seiz...full-list/

Yes, but look at the date embedded in the .gif file. Halfpricemovieticket was taken down in January 2012 (thus the 2012_01). I am guess the webmaster just pulled the same gif with out making that update.

It is real. Found a post in a similar thread at fw: http://www.justice.gov/usao/md/Public-Affairs/press_releases/Press12/GovernmentSeizesTwoWebsitesOfferingFraudulentStoreandRewardsCouponsandRelatedPayPalAccounts.html

A staples manager told me the FBI was investigating fraudulent coupon manufacturers. Apparently, some Chinese and Pakistani organizations learned Staples (& other retailers) coupon code generation scheme and have been raking in millions selling fake coupons. They even learned the rewards check scheme and were selling those, too. Hope they were not one of the sellers of fake coupons, or they're in for trouble.

I'm a bit happy and a bit sad. More happy since printable coupons don't work in stores anymore.

At this point, we still dont know if they changed the coupon algorithm or not. If anyone received a legit 16 digits coupon of any kind from Staples recently, we'll know if the rewards number is still included or not.
