Watch as either
a.) a new site pops up (The Chinese do not give up so easily... laugh out loud. Trust me..I bet I'll have to buy using bitcoins or something now..)
b.) no more alternatives. Staples loses a ton of business.

..Staples used to always send coupons. But not anymore. If they don't do good coupons anymore, no point to shop there anymore. They are as overpriced as any other major B&M store.
i was thinking the same. there won't be so many premier members anymore. they'll lose money. i don't get any coupons in the mail at all.

I'm very sad today. S d e r c l u b offered the lowest prices anywhere online. Now where do I go to find cheap $25/$75 online only coupons that sell for $0.45? Oh wait, that's right, I forgot that I've been banned for half a year now from ordering online at Staples.com hahhah.

As stated before, stealing and selling rewards checks (sorry, "recycle coupons"), as well as greed (more profit from the rewards checks compared to generated coupons obviously) brought this.

Anyone used a 25 75 today? Are they still working?

Yeah, I think you hit it on the nail about the selling of rewards checks. Everything became magnified when the operator(s) of the site decided to sell those rewards. It would have been fine and dandy except for the fact that the real owners complained to Staples about their rewards being used 5-6 states away. Thus, I imagine Staples began investigating to find the source of the problem. I bet it wasn't long for them to trace it to s d e r c l u b and opened a court order to cease on-going transactions.

For the record..I never bought rewards checks. I knew those were straight up stolen. And it's essentially like stealing gift cards/certificates from someone.

I thought it was incredibly ballsy when I saw them selling them. SDerClub has been around for a while now, and it was probably because of the stolen rewards checks that got them in deep shit.

They should have stuck with coupons..

I wonder how much staples sales will go down considering over 60% of the deals posted here require a $$$ off coupon (25/75 or 25/100)

No more buying from staples, no more MM Sadwalk

Do you honestly think Staples is going to lose money over this? Think again. If you were making money off of Staples, then Staples was LOSING money off your transaction.

If most $25 off $75 were used to reduce the cost of something to where it is cheapest at Staples, but would have otherwise been purchased elsewhere, and if the reduced price still allowed a profit for staples, when yes this would hurt staples. But what percentage of these coupons were used by people who wouldn't have otherwise made the purchase?

And the rewards coupons - do you really think they care about losing the business of people who were using stolen rewards? How about the business of those who couldn't use their own rewards? Even if a manager pushed the discount through for them, that's more money lost by Staples, and a hassle for their loyal customers!

The smartest thing for staples to do would be to require ID when using the rewards in store, and time any online reward use to a single account, associated with that rewards number.

Maybe another site will pop us within days, but if Staples went to the effort of involving ICE, they might actually be serious about stopping the abuse. I would love to get $25 off $75 on a regular basis, (and I did just get one in the mail last week, not tied to my rewards account), but not being able to buy one isn't a deal killer - particularly if it means I can in fact use the one they mailed to me, rather than someone else stealing it.

Well the first reports of the gift card account hacks seem to be in April. I haven't gone through the bb forums checking every thread to find older stuff, but it seems possible at least that if they were stealing and selling rewards certificates, a natural progression would be for them to start just buying gc's to various services on others' accounts.

I mean, no ones losing really when they were just doing coupons (as long as staples was still making a profit) since most people were SD'ers and wouldn't have paid more anyway. It's a bit different when they know these are people's rewards that presumably they'd want to spend themselves at some point. Once they've decided to start screwing people over it doesn't seem like it would matter to them whether it's rewards certs or buying actual gc's for presales on ebay, so long as they can get away with it.

Of course, it could also be completely unrelated, but I was just pointing out the timing is suspicious. Since whoever is buying the gc's on people's bestbuy accounts is probably doing it en mass, this would indicate they're probably one of the sketchy sites online that sell discount psn/xbl/itunes cards. They sell them cheap, clear the money, and disappear before their customers psn/xbl/itunes/steam etc.. accounts are disabled for fraud. I think given that, there's at least the possibility that they could be running multiple operations like this or involved w/those who are.

look at the amount of people on sd and fw that buy on staples. i buy on staples just for $$. to make premier you have to spend $1,000 and now without coupons... no chance. so yes, i think they will lose a lot of money. the 25/75 made me a little money and ate up tax. i then gave any software to my coworkers to send to third world countries.

any FAR software will not be bought if we can't make $$. let's face the facts, most people on sd bought just to buy, make money, and possibly resell. the majority of sd members who buy from staples or any office store is here to get something as close to free. do you see all the deal threads when there is FAR or FASR? those threads blow up and people ask tons of questions. and i bet some of those people forget to submit the rebate or cash a check or have under $1 on their visa rebate card. they've made a lot of money from FAR as well.

i bought solely on FAR and $$, so i would be one of those people who wouldn't have otherwise made a purchase. you can say that they won't lose money on us but they've cut back on ink recycling, they've cut down on sending coupons to premiers and they've cut back on deals. now i can't use coupons, fine, then i just won't shop there. and i'm sure there are a lot of others that will follow. sd and fw staples customers were built on that. we're not buying the software because we need it.

but then there are people who find something on clearance and then that extra $25 makes it a bit cheaper... that's the coupon that made them want to buy the product at staples rather than amazon.

now go pick on someone else. i replied to someone who had the same idea as me. i agreed with someone else who if it wasn't him, it would've been someone else. leave it alone. we've lost a coupon dealer and staples has lost customers. there's no reason to start something b/c it's what they do on this forum. i don't post in general but there's always someone like you who reminds me why i shouldn't post.

Nice to see them gone. Maybe this means Staples has truly changed their coupon algorithm across the board and shut off the spigot. I would think that the feds would have insisted on some action from Staples if they were going to get involved, otherwise all they're doing is playing whack-a-domain with a minor group of thieving bastards. Hopefully this month's changes to the Rewards certificates will at least protect legitimately earned Reward dollars in the future.

Kind of amazed at all the people coming out of the woodwork who actually maintained a balance with SDer club.

I'm not entitled to post here, because I don't agree with you? Really?
SD members are not the majority of Staples customers, and I doubt Staples really wants our business that badly. They put up with people who make money off of them because it is part of the cost of having a program to draw in the customers they do want. Yes, they sometimes make money on some of the stuff we buy, but the margin on many items is such that they don't. If their business model is such the they need customers who bleed them dry, it's a pretty bad business model.

If you're hesitant to post because someone might disagree with you, that's your problem, not mine. There are others here who agree with me too. Stales needed to fix their system, and it looks like now they will. The choice is to fix the system, or abandon it completely - would you rather they do like JC Penney, and eliminate discounts completely, in favor or lowering prices of everything just a bit? Yes, they'll lose the business of those who want everything at the best possible price, but maybe they'll gain more from those who son't care as much about the discount - who want an "everyday low price."

Those who want an every day low price? This is working out well for JC Penny!

That's why Staples needs to fix their discount system. They don'twant to usethe JCP model. They need to eliminate the abuse, and find a way to rewardloyal customers without enciuraging more abuse.
