Any workaround to stream RMVB to DLNA device?

JuJu83 1,672 1,028 June 15, 2012 at 05:48 AM
I am trying to find a way to stream RMVB files from my desktop to Samsung UN40D6300 TV. It supports DLNA video format only. Is there a way to do it without buying a media player?

I have tried to download a codec package that is allowed RMVB to play via Windows Media Player. It played fine from my desktop. But when I select window media server from my TV, it's not a compatible format from my TV.

It's much hassle to convert every single files into a compatible format. I am looking a way to "live" trancode RMVB to e.g. MP4 (without writing it in new MP4 file) to be accepted by my TV.

TIA for your help.

Playon Player should do this. Although not sure it's free, you can get a free trial and if it works buy the program.

You'll need to use something other that windows media center as your dlna sever.

Check out this chart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comp...ia_servers

I just tried Plex media server last night. It doesn't look like it's doing any trancoding while I am connecting it from my Samsung TV.

Something called Synology seems to support your RMVB, you might be SOL and have to convert it.

Renaming the file .rmvb to .mp4 usually works fine on Samsung UN40D5800. This only occours when you try to play .rmvb files from a USB stick. You won't see any issue when you're playing it through PC Allshare software. Go figure...
