Depends on What you need in a tablet.
Also you could wait a few months for the Acer A110. It is reported to be selling for $199 and will offer Tegra 3, 1gb ram, 8GB, Micro SD, HDMI but will only have 1024 x 600 TN DIsplay (hopefully not the one one from the A100 which has worse color shift off axis then the Archos. Too Bad Archos didn't go with 1GB ram......if they did then keeping the Archos would be a No Brainer!!!!!. |

Hi,
Anyone have any thoughts as to whether or not Archos will provide an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for this tablet? Now that the Nexus 7 details are known, I am about to unbox my G9 80 to make sure everything is working before the 2 week return period is up. Also, is there any reason not to upgrade to ICS? Thanks! |

if it makes anyone of you feel better about owning this tablet.
I played with mine this past week and noticed it is faster in 3D games (jimmy pataya, Riptide GT, Shine Runner, ) than the Asus Transformer TF101. I noticed the frame rate in those games are alittle smoother. I got the G9 with the OMAP 4460 cpu. though not exactally 100% fair match as the Asus is pushing more pixels. But when u come down to it playing 3D games on the Archos is smoother =================================
My days as a sales person @ bestbuy Customer: This stupid phone I bought last week won't work right Me: So it's the phone thats stupid and not you right? Customer: I'm looking for an easy way to access my media files with my laptop when I'm in the yard. Me: Sports Authority is having a sale on walking shoes. |

I don't think this Archos should be compared with Google Nexus 7. First of all, it's $75 difference. That's nearly half less. The Archos is 8" 4:3 aspect ratio where as the GN7 is 7" 16:9. 4:3 aspect ratio is far better when web browsing. The other pros and cons of each machine pretty much cancel each other out. So if you will be web browsing a lot, you should keep the Archos. I'm keeping it.

Archos 80 G9 for $125 was simply best deal ever on Fully Sanctioned Android Tablet
For $125 where else are you going to get:Android 4.0.3 Full Access to Google Play Store OMAP 4460 @1.2ghz 1024 x 768 Micro HDMI GPS Bluetooth Front Camera FUll Size USB Host Micro USB Charging. There are only two negatives on this Tablet: 512mb ram and non IPS display. The Pros greatly outway the Cons |

I've been out of town and so I have only been playing with this for about 2 days. My touchpad was stolen, and so this is ti's replacement.
There is no doubt that the screen and WebOs (IMO) on the touchpad are better. At the same time the screen on this is plenty bright, you just have to get pretty squarely in front it. Side viewing angles are not very good. Agreed that the 512mb slows it down when you have several webpages open, but the cpu seemps plenty zippy (mide came with the slighly faster one). As to construction, the tp was better, but I have been pleasantly surprised with the Archos' sturdy feel and what to me is attractive styling. The Archos is also smaller and lighter, but still has a large enough screen for easy web viewing, which is my primary use. Battery life seems decent. I know there are better android tables out there, but for $125 this one will do pretty much everything I need. I'm keeping it. |

I followed this to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1653566
so i am rooted but I cannot seem to get the custom rom to install. When I try to put the custom rom to the root storage location, it gives me a space insufficient error. Any ideas?

Heads up. I filed a warranty claim for my broken charger and they mailed me a new one which works.

Funny thing is, I was planning on upgrading my cellphone (at substantial cost of $300) before I came across this deal. Now that I have an upper-end 8" Android tablet, I'm seriously questioning my desire to get the expensive phone.
So, not only did I get the Archos for $90 OTD, but I may also "save" $300 by forgoing the discretionary phone purchase.

Anyone find a good deal on a case for their Archos G9?
The best deal I can find is this one at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Leat...roduct_top It's $13 with free shipping, and made by Poetic. Anyone using one of these or does anyone have any other suggestions? |
