yeah that's what i meant. of the 6.5 gb free on the unit, i'm already hitting close to 4gb, so 8gb really won't cut it for me, so the question becomes am i willing to spend extra ~$150 for the nexus 16gb.

i missed this deal by a week. Do you guys think this deal will comeback soon?

Before I spend $250 on the 16GB Nexus I would be more likely to spend $240 and buy the Gal Tab 2 at Costco (think it even comes with some kind of case). For roughly the same $250 I would be better off with the Micro SD, HDMI, and IR on the Gal Tab. I don't play games so the OMAP 4430 on Samsung would be adequate for videos....the only real negative is the 1024 x 600 PLS display.

Also you could wait a few months for the Acer A110. It is reported to be selling for $199 and will offer Tegra 3, 1gb ram, 8GB, Micro SD, HDMI but will only have 1024 x 600 TN DIsplay (hopefully not the one one from the A100 which has worse color shift off axis then the Archos.

Too Bad Archos didn't go with 1GB ram......if they did then keeping the Archos would be a No Brainer!!!!!.

I don't think this Archos should be compared with Google Nexus 7. First of all, it's $75 difference. That's nearly half less. The Archos is 8" 4:3 aspect ratio where as the GN7 is 7" 16:9. 4:3 aspect ratio is far better when web browsing. The other pros and cons of each machine pretty much cancel each other out. So if you will be web browsing a lot, you should keep the Archos. I'm keeping it.

Evidently there are several flavors of the G9 available at Staples. The G9's CPU can be as follows:

TI OMAP 4430 1GHz Stock
TI OMAP 4430 1.2GHz Stock
TI OMAP 4460 1.5GHz Stock

It doesn't seem that Staples discriminates between the three and I don't know how you can tell from the box. I lucked out and my store was selling the 4460 version.

You can figure out which type of CPU you have in your tablet by going into settings and then into "About Device." There should be a listing their for the type of CPU in your tablet.

There is a custom overclock ROM at XDA Developers created by Surdu Petra which can kick up your BenchMark scores quite a bit:

G9 Models with the OC ROM can have their CPU speed increased as follows:
TI OMAP 4430 1GHz Stock , Overclock -> 1.06GHz; 1.12GHz; 1.18GHz; 1.24GHz;
TI OMAP 4430 1.2GHz Stock, Overclock -> 1.26GHz; 1.32GHz; 1.38GHz; 1.44GHz;
TI OMAP 4460 1.5GHz Stock, Overclock -> 1.56GHz; 1.62GHz; 1.68GHz; 1.74GHz;

The only downside to this custom ROM is it is for 4.0.6 so GPS compatibility might be an issue.

BTW, I've also read that using Quadrant as a Benchmarking tool for dual core processors doesn't really capture the CPU specs as well as it should. Does anyone know of a good benchmarking tool for use with dual core processors?

so i am rooted but I cannot seem to get the custom rom to install. When I try to put the custom rom to the root storage location, it gives me a space insufficient error. Any ideas?

Heads up. I filed a warranty claim for my broken charger and they mailed me a new one which works.



You are using the wrong file. I had the same problem.
