That's too bad, if you put the effort in you could do some pretty neat stuff. Now I can't speak directly for this model, but the stock firmware was perfectly fine for almost 100% of my uses, and the mod would only be worth it if you enjoy tinkering, even though it wasn't too difficult.
The UI was pretty slow. but I didn't have issue with any videos locking (stock or homebrewed), I primarily used it for 1080p mkvs stored on a hd connected by usb and netflix. Then again, wasn't the same model exactly.
Considering the pains I've had with file formats with other devices and previously having to set up something like ps3 media server(tried many alternatives), my experiences with my wd media player were refreshing.

Staples not doing PM anymore with dell called on the phone, they just added a $20 easy rebate and are no longer doing the price match with dell. Anyone have any advice I don't want a Visa rebate card although staples is pretty good with rebates. When I spoke to the woman on the phone she said we can't price match with dell because it is the same price with the rebate." Is there any other sites cheaper that I could do a price match with? Thanks

They are not price-matching this anymore. I called a few times and it's being rejected because of the rebate. This deal will NOT work.

Arghh, I didn't know modded firmware isn't available for this model. How better is that wdlxtv firmware?

You can request a check instead of Visa rebate card. And it seems like this deal just got better or easier: easier in that you don't have to PM anymore to get to the same price, and better if you somehow manage to PM still with the rebate in play.

Please explain check instead of Visa rebate card. The rebate is instant, they don't send you a real card. The price is nonetheless $79.99 correct?

what sort of comment would you like ?

loving this WD live, got it from last week's PM. definitely designed to stream your movies. my roku would simply reboot in the middle of the movie. WD Live is definitely the panasonic of the DVD world (plays almost anything you throw at it).
