OFFER STILL ALIVE AS OF 09/09/12

to meet first purchase requirement one option is to buy amazon gift cert of $0.15

Offer only showing up for 40K?
Make sure you are logged into your United account. To be eligible for the up to 65K offer you must have some miles in your united account. If you don't, you can easily use the MileageStore or whatever it's called and make a purchase through a store like target and earn some miles. I applied with only like 50 miles and got accepted.

65K AND $50 STATEMENT CREDIT OFFER
If you can get the 65K offer to show up you *should* be able to get this offer to show up as well. Offers a $50 statement credit on first purchase.
https://www.theexplorercard.com/M...AFWIC.aspx

"Enjoy a $50 statement credit after you use your MileagePlus Explorer Card for the first time. This introductory $50 credit is not tied to this United reservation and will be applied to your statement 6-8 weeks after first use of the Card."

Do you know if United and MileagePlus are two separate entities? Or are they combined like Citi ThankYou?

At Citi- if you cancel the credit card, you lose out on your ThankYou points too.

Or is it like Chase Marriott? Where you can cancel the card but still have the points in your Marriott account?

Thanks.

The points would not expire or disappear even if you cancel your card. If don't need air ticket u can redeem a new iPad 2 16gb wifi for 52000 points or iPad 3 for 63000.
