credit limits dont affect scores right?>
I know the higher score you have the higher limits you have. Thats a given.
BUT does the credit limit affect your score much.
My understanding is they total up all your limits and then do the percentage of limit used and not per card. IE, i have 5 cards total with a 28k total limit. I mainly use 2 cards, one with a $2500 limit and one with $5000. I dont carry a balance but i wait for the statments to show before i pay in full. My $2500 limit card i average about $2000, which is 80% of that limit and my $5000 card only has about $200. $2200 of my $28k total is only like 8%.
is my FICO score seeing that i'm using 80% of one card and next to nothing on the others or 8% of my TOTAL.
I'm asking because i've had my $2500 for a year plus and i asked for a limit increase to $5k. I was declined this...
because i have "too many accounts with them" I just happen to bank with them and hold a SINGLE credit card with them. My parents have a mortgage with them, but i dont think that should play a role.
I'm a little shocked but i really dont care too much. Its all about the cashback %, if i need i can pay off some of the $2500 in the middle of the month and use it some more.
