32-37" HDTV 1080p
not looking for the most expensive, but not trying to get some cut-rate brand eitherI've heard differing opinions as to whether it's worth paying for the 1080p or settling for 720, so thoughts on that would be appreciated. But really, looking to jump pretty soon (already have the cable box and everything, so just want the first good deal to come along). Thanks in advance....I'm a relative newb, so be gentle with me and any insight would be MUCH appreciated. |

Few things you wanna consider when picking a tv.
disclaimer: I'm not an expert. this is all from personal experience. I'd recommend you do some more research of you want to find the perfect tv. 1080p: good for using as a monitor from time to time. just plug in a computer with hdmi. good for sitting fairly close to the tv or if you have exceptional vision. only useful if source is also 1080p (blu-ray, some games, computer) easier to notice in larger sets. about 37" and above 720p: cheaper (usually, not always) if you won't be close to the tv then it might be the right choice. lots of hd programming is in 720p with a 32" tv you probably won't notice the difference past like 5-6 feet. plasma: cheaper (usually, not always) good if you can control the lighting in the room (not a lot of windows) LCD: usually 2nd cheapest good even in bright areas with Lotsa windows cheap prices compared to LEDs led-LCD: lower power consumption (not sure how much lower) thin (usually) more expensive (usually) warranty: i haven't had to use a warranty but sometimes it's a good idea to have if you end up with a lesser known brand name. squaretrade has decent prices on warranties. they often have coupons. check em out if you're interested. I've seen 32" sets go as low as $150 just decide what fits you best and check often for deals. hope this helps |

thanks, carbs
that is all very helpful, and meshes well with what my research has uncovered. I am still very much in debate about the 1080p v. 720 -- as it seems to me that I can tell a difference even at a 10-15 feet in the store. Now whether I would ever notice when tvs aren't side by side is another story, but I'm really hoping to find a deal on a 1080p that at least brings it down into the ballpark of some 720 models. Maybe that's a pipe dream, I don't know |
