 So true. I forget a lot of things, but as soon as I boot up any old computer game, i can remember all the textures, secret doors, sound effects, etc. Its recall vs recognition.

GD!! What an awesome deal! Loved the Ultima series... but couldn't afford these games in my youth. Finally I will get a chance to play these after all these years.

Martian Dreams -- Super awesome game!! I actually learned something useful about Madame Curie, Nikola, Tesla, and who knows what else. I did all of that while really enjoying a vastly fun sandbox type game. We need games like these in 2012.

RIP Ultima Such a fun sandbox game that gave you so much to muck around with. IIRC Ultima 7 had a carnival / circus area you could whack the bell and if it dinged it would give you a small purple dinosaur. I remember spending so long just making a little house out of the purple dinosaurs lol! so much random fun to be had in the game. Most sandbox games are definitely more focused on like 80% graphics 20% gameplay, rather than the reverse of some of the classics. |
