Speaking of false advertising....
The MSRP of cell phones has always irked me. If anything is false advertising, this is. Has anyone, anywhere, ever paid full price for a cell phone? My new phone is supposedly $749 MSRP (razr maxx). Of course street price runs from $0 to $289 (highest I could find). Verizon has a "used value" calculator on their site. I entered in the information of my less than 2 year old Samsung Fascinate in mint condition and they put a value on it of $24. It is less than 2 years since it was released, also with an MSRP somewhere north of $600. But now it is virtually worthless.
Why hasn't the cell phone MSRP scam ever been investigated by anyone? I know the whole point of it is to charge contract exit fees for early termination of the cell phone plan. But in reality, no one pays MSRP and I doubt anyone calculates profits based on this fictional number.
Why are we not pissed off about this false advertising/false marketing ploy? I think everyone should write (or go to the website and do an online complaint) the Federal Trade Commission and lodge a complaint about this shady business practice.
I just filed a complaint via the below URL. It takes 2 minutes to do it. The more complaints they get, the more chance they will investigate.
