Its obvious that Microsoft wouldn't price their high-end tablet too high like in the premium range. That would be ridiculous. I'd rather purchase a high-end notebook with the best of best specifications.
BTW, the question is well asked (you need to set your minds to think realistically about the price of Microsoft's tablet). Would you go on spending >$1000 on a tablet / would you buy a Surface tablet if it was competitively priced against the iPad?
Would you really care about the price? Are you eagerly waiting for the Surface tablet?
The thought never crossed my mind.
Perhaps you are surrounded with iPads, thus the comparison, whereas, where I live, I had more or less only heard of them and seen them on TV and the fact that their tablet launched before other brands just means nothing to me. There's always a first in everything, but nowadays, that doesn't count for much, at least, not in my world.
In my world, who makes the best is all that matters.
They weren't first. However, every other attempt at tablets/slates/whatever prior to Apple's was a total failure. Pretty much any tablet at the same price as Apple's has also been a failure.
I think Microsoft is going to screw this up. You've got two different tablets, one that will run regular x86 Windows apps and one that wont. The Surface RT needs to be cheaper than the iPad or people will just buy the iPad, and the Surface Pro needs to be cheaper than ultrabooks or people will just buy ultrabooks. But they can't be TOO cheap, because Microsoft has partners like ASUS and Samsung that sell their own tablets. Sounds like a marketing nightmare.
Hell yes. you got that right. This should be fun to watch
This product would not be useful to those that rely on 3G/HSDPA/4G LTE connectivity. Hopefully, Microsoft discloses something about this soon; the Surface would then be a true competitor to the iPad. Has anyone else thought about this?
Depends on where the connectivity comes from. I rely on my phone as a 3G hotspot, so I can connect whatever I want - tablet, laptop, Kindle, whatever. I will always have a phone with me, so I see no need for a separate 3/4G connection on my peripheral devices. IMHO, of course.
