I have a folder on a pen drive in true crypt. I copied about 500 files to this folder which already has quite a few files on it. I then tried to copy the entire folder with all of the files back to my hard drive. I kept copying and pasting, but nothing was happening. Therefore, I dismounted. When I mounted it again, I got an error and windows asked me to scan the file. Windows found "first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated." Then, I also got "removing nonvalid long folder entry" as well as "unrecoverable error". It asked me if I wanted to convert folder to file. After several attempts at trying to copy, I gave up and just deleted the entire truecrypt file, made a new one, and copied the folder from my pc's hard drive to my pen drive. (I had all of the files I needed in separate places, so I just had to combine them.)
My question is - Now it works fine. I can copy back and forth with the folder between pc and pen drive. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't something I should be concerned about as the folder is important and I want to back it up to an external. I just don't want it corrupting anything else.
I've been using truecrpyt for external backups 1-2x a month for the last couple of years, so I wouldn't expect the issue to reappear.
I would definitely have more than 1 backup though to be sure.
Thank you for the response.
I do have more than 1 backup... I usually copy the actual folders onto my pc and leave the truecrypt file on the pen drive. I was more concerned that it was an issue with the folder that would corrupt more files on my pc. Just wanted to make sure I was safe to keep the folder on my pc. It's been a few days and I haven't had further issues...
