I would seriously think twice about getting this after yesterday's Win Phone 8 announcement.

Some validity to that, but a lot of people who'd think that forget to think about the down side and hassle of being an early adapter to an unproven OS. I, for one, take comfort knowing I've let others help work out the kinks of win7.5 that be of the miserable group that always suffers from absolutely having to have the newest shiny (and paying top dollar in the meantime). Nothing about that proposition is ever "slick" in my book.

And in 22 months, when all the silly early adapters have already polished up my Win 8 choice and the market has greatly lowered the price, I can make yet another smart, well-informed choice like I do now. A personal choice, but I think many others here share the sentiment.

That's pretty much exactly as I saw it. However, our definition of waiting just differs. To me, "waiting" would mean simply waiting the 22 months for my renewal to come again. By that time Win 8 would likely have been out for maybe about a year or so, kinks would have been worked out, developers on board, and price much lower.

Kind of a no-brainer from my standpoint.

there's always new software that doesn't support old hardware, in this case there's validity with Windows Phone 8 and the new chipset they're going to use after Windows Phone 8, unlike iOS and sometimes Android, the iPhone 4 has the capability to handle SIRI but Apple just wants to force the users to get the new hardware...

The difference here is that the Lumia 900 was the long-awaited and much-hyped showpiece for Windows Phone. And now, after being out for a mere 2 months, its obsolescence has been pre-planned without a successor available for months. If the hardware can't handle Windows Phone 8, Microsoft and Nokia knew it far in advance and chose to skimp on the hardware anyway. The majority of folks walking around with Lumia 900s right now are the enthusiasts who will feel most burned by the abandonment. Whatever Microsoft's chances were of establishing Windows Phone as a serious smartphone competitor, they just got a lot slimmer.

It's all ok, whoever wants to get the best WP today they can get the Lumia 900, or just wait for the 41Mpx carl Zeiss Lumia later this year, consumer choice.

It's all OK for who? Probably not for Microsoft or Nokia. I'm not worried for the consumers - Android and iOS are great choices. Personally, I am a huge Android fan, and don't see myself switching anytime soon. But if Microsoft wants to succeed here, it doesn't have room to keep making these mistakes. And to me, this was a whopper - they seriously burned their best supporters. I think they may have just sealed their own fate.

it's fine, consumers will buy it if they want to, sales won't stop.

I also use an Android as my companion device but don't trust it as my main device, privacy issues...

you have your companies screwed up. You mean NOKIA doesn't have room for mistakes. Microsoft did nothing wrong.

Okay here's something that I have issue with. I understand we have a lot of early adopters here, which is kind of odd for being "slick" dealers in my opinion, but sometimes the early adopting goes a bit overboard and without much forethought.

I'm writing this reply on my iPhone4, which I bought as a mainstream buyer almost exactly 2 years ago. It was a good phone then and in many ways still is. But two years later I have the opportunity to get a newer phone which in some ways is superior. So what if WP8 is coming out within the year? Please explain to me, with how far tech moves these days, how that really changes the lumia 900's effectiveness as a smart phone?

Really think about it - what does "obsolete" mean to you? Because for a penny right now and some chump change for whatever apps I decide to use on it, the phone would be very worth it for the next two years til I decide to get whatever phone is the best deal at the time. And for the obsoletists out there - how long do you keep your phones for?
